Pewsey CASSIAR ELEMENTARY-SECONDARY SCHOOL WELCOMES NEW TEACHERS Five teachers new to Cassiar have been added to the staff of the Cassiar Elementary Secondary School. Mrs. E. Lee, who teaches Grade Three, comes from Revelstoke where she had taught for a number of years. Mrs. Lee and husband Rolf have come ''to experience the North first hand". Mrs. G. Kurian has transferred from Lower Post to the school to take the Grade Two Class. She is joined by her husband and son Leslie, a Grade 8 student. Mrs. G. Smit will teach Grade One at the school Mrs. Smit arrives from Kitimat, B.C. and is joined on staff by her husband, G. Smit, who will be teaching Grades ā€˜6/7 and Physical Education. The new staff is completed with the addition of Mr. B. Paterson, a graduate of Simon Fraser University, who teaches Mathematics, Science and Biology. The school, which offers programmes from Kindergar- ten to Grade Twelve for the first time has a staff of seventeen. Several teachers from last year have assumed new responsibilities in the school. Miss B. Evans has become full-time Learning Assistant for the Cassiar school. Ms. D. Ablin has taken over the teaching of English for secondary students. Replacing Ms. Ablin, is Mrs. J. Grant, who is in charge of the District Resource Centre and the School Resource Centre. Mr. D. Rasmus teaches Grade Five/Six this year. Mr. J. Olson takes a new position, that of Vice-Principal as well as teaching Grades Six/Seven and senior courses. Other Teachers returning to staff are Mrs. H. Metcalfe, Kindergarten, Mr. P. Wood, Grade Four, Miss K. Smidt, Home Economics, Mr. W. Burr, Mathematics and Science, Mr. P. Hickman, Industrial Education,. Mrs. J. Olson, Commerce and Drama, and Mr. J. Wright, Social Studies. SCHOOL RABE ED BAO BAO BAO BIEN: s ā€˜ | ; rg 5 TWO NEW TEACHERS FOR GOOD HOPE LAKE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Beginning September 1976 Mr. and Mrs. A. Passerall take up teaching duties at Good Hope Lake Elementary School. Mrs. Passerall will be teaching children in the Kindergarten to Grade Three years and Mr. Passerall will be teaching Grades Four through Grade Seven youngsters. The Passeralls have moved to Good Hope Lake from Kitimat and are looking forward to experiences in the North. SCHOOL ENROLMENT FOR THREE DISTRICT SCHOOLS INCREASING School enrolment is up drastically in Dease Lake Elementary, almost doubling over last years enrolment. This increase was not anticipated as many families moved in during the summer. Our two local schools in Cassiar and Good Hope Lake have enrolments similar to last year. However, with the future influx of families to Cassiar, the enrolment is expected to climb steadily. At the present time, Cassiar school has 230 student: enrolled. E.R.I.B.C. REPORT RELEASED The follow-up to the survey. done last June by Dr. L. McDonald of the Educational Research Institute of . B.C. is now available in report form. From information gathered by Dr. L. McDonald and Mr. S. Garrod through interviews with members of each community in the Stikine School District, several recommendations were put forth for school and community planning. The report released by Dr. A.J.H. Newberry, District Superintendent of Schools is available to members of the public. Anyone interested in reading the report may contact J. Grant at the school. Mr. Grant encourages the in- volement of the community in the respect and it is hoped that a school committee made up of parents, teachers and other interest groups can be formed to deal with recommendations. Excerpts of the report will be published in.later editions of the Asbestos Sheet.
