Over The Edge UNBC's Official Student Newspaper Volume 5 - Issue 2 - September 28, 1998 Fire alarm test evacuates residence BY AARON MAHONEY On Monday Sept 22 at approximately 5:30 PM, 272 students from Residence 2 evacuated and took refuge in the winter garden when fire sensors were triggered. Dave Pratt, Occupational Health & Safety Coordinator, stated that the cause of the alarm is still under investigation. Pratt said that Resident Advisors, Security and Facilities personal responded to the alarm and had the building evacuated in under five minutes. Laird McLean, third floor Residence Advisor, handled the evacuation. “It went fairly well,” said McLean. McLean went on to state that all residents must leave the building when the fire alarm sounds and make their way to the Winter Garden. “We are not responsi- ble for students who disregard the alarm. | just make a note of where they are for the fire department,” said McLean.
