Here at the Northern Undergraduate Student Society (NUGSS) we are preparing for an exciting year with lots of events to roll out and projects to make happen. For those that aren’t familiar, here is a rundown of who we are what we do as your student representatives. As an undergrad student at UNBC you are automatically a member of NUGSS, your student government. NUGSS is comprised of 11 elected student representatives. We have four executive directors, VP Finance, External, Social and Student Affairs, as well as six associate directors: associate director’s events, planning, campus sustainability as well as colleges, First Nations and women’s representatives. I am privileged to be given the opportunity to represent your interests as NUGSS President this year. NUGSS offers services to undergrad students such as club funding, an ombudsperson, emergency financial and food aid, our health and dental plan, and full office services including faxing, lockers and international student cards. Check out our website for more info, nugss.unbc.ca! Along with the services we offer, NUGSS works to improve student life in many ways. Some of our past accomplishments include the implementation of your health and dental plan, two successful referendums to offer you a U-PASS for unlimited use of the Prince George transit system and Four Seasons Aquatic Centre, and the opening of the Northern University Student Centre (NUSC). The NUSC is home to the best (and only!) latte on campus, the Thirsty Moose Pub, study rooms, and the NUSC Event Space (where the weekly Farmer’s Market and many NUGSS events are held). You will also find our subtenants, CFUR Radio, Over the Edge newspaper, The Pride Centre, and the PGPIRG in our building---we encourage you to spend some time here and stop by the office to meet us!
