First off, let me introduce myself! My name is Shelby Petersen and I am the Editor and Chief at Over the Edge (OTE). I started out with Over the Edge as the News Editor back in 2009 and have been Editor in Chief since last year. As Editor in Chief, I am responsible for the oversight of the paper. This means that I organize each issue and make sure that the OTE staff turn their articles in on time. When I am not working at OTE I am finishing up my degree in Political Science. There have been some changes here at Over the Edge as well. We come back this semester with a considerably smaller staff due to the plight that is graduation. This means that there are three new spots open at the newspaper! The first available position is Features Editor. The Features section is where we discuss important issues in pop culture, fashion, beauty, Internet memes, and the like. This section really has no boundaries which makes it all the more fun to write for. The second opening is for Clubs Editor. The Clubs Editor would be responsible for covering all UNBC clubs related events and news. In addition, the Clubs Editor is also responsible for doing club profiles and interviews. Each of the aforementioned positions comes with a $200 dollar monthly honourarium. In order to receive the honourarium each month, If any of these positions seem like they are calling your name then please do send a resume, cover letter, and sample of your writing (preferably an article over an essay) to over-the-edge@unbc.ca. Finally, Over the Edge is currently holding a writing contest! The contest will run from now until the end of the semester with a draw each month to win $50. To enter you must write an article for Over the Edge. The more articles that you write the more times your name will be entered into the draw. The winner will be announced in the last issue of every month. So start writing and write fast! If you need any article ideas or have any questions about the contest do not hesitate to ask! Moll Over the Edge is the official independent publishing media of students at the University of Northern British Columbia. Hanna Petersen — News Editor My position involves keeping up with all of the UNBC news as well as what is going on in this fair country of ours. I attend UNBC and community events and report the news back to you. This will be my second year writing for Over the Edge and I am super excited for it to begin. When I am not at Over the Edge I am taking classes in both English and Political Science. Darcie Smith — Arts Editor My position is probably the most fun at Over the Edge because I am tasked with such arduous duties as reviewing movies, attending local shows, and reading books to review. This will be my third year with Over the Edge and I am happy to be back. I am an English major and I really love animals. John Hall — Photo Editor Working as photo editor for Over the Edge I have a unique opportunity to capture the moments and events around UNBC and PG. that are sometimes too elusive to be put into words. Also, watch out for Cornered on Campus, a monthly Over the Edge installment that focuses on the opinions of the student body. When I’m not taking photos, ’'m trying to make headway in my Masters thesis, which revolves around tourism at the wonderful Ancient Forest Trail. Puneet Hayer - Sports Editor Hello! I’m the newest member of the OTE team and I am very excited to get started. I will be covering all the UNBC related sports as well as some local highschool football. If you have any sports article ideas be sure to let me know. When I am not writing for Over the Edge you can see me doing the Play-by-Play at T-Wolves games and coaching high school football at College Heights. I’m als an Enlgish Major. Kali Flick — Business Manager My position at the paper entails a broad-spectrum of _ secretarial responsibilities as well as keeping our finances in line. This will be my third year with Over the Edge I am in my third year of Environmental Planning. Outside of UNBC you might find me on the slopes as my life generally revolves around skiing/snowboarding and winter sports in general. May the snow fly! Jessica Shapiro — Copy Editor As the copy editor for OTE I am the last to read all the articles written by our wonderful writers before the paper goes to print. When I read the articles I look out for spelling and grammatical errors. This is my second year at Over the Edge and also at UNBC. I am a graduate student studying environmental values in the forests of this region. Features Editor - VACANT The Features position would be perfect for someone who is interested in pop culture and would love to share their commentary with the world. A keen sense of humour is favourable as well as the ability to cover a variety of topics from fashion to relationships and everything in between Clubs Editor - VACANT Like the Sports position, Clubs is also a pretty easy concept to get. Your job would be to stay on top of all the UNBC clubs activities and cover them for the paper. You can also profile new and interesting clubs each issue so that all UNBC students are aware of just how much there is to do on campus.
