BEAR LAKE “THE SPORTSMAN’S PARADISE” By G. F. Turner. EAVING Barkerville, the road runs due north to Bear Lake, a distance of 20 miles, making a gradual descent of 1,200 feet in that distance and passing through a beautifully timbered country, with open spaces here and there, where at times one may catch a glimpse of wild game. On reaching Bear Lake, a region greets one’s view that has a distinctive phase of beauty, unsurpassed in America; the alluring details of mountain country are there, ice cold creeks, clear invigorating atmosphere, and glorious bursts of scenery. Here, if one wishes to make a trip to the upper lakes, can be secured the services of a competent guide, who will supply boats and camping equip- ment at reasonable rates. Good fishing may be had, Rainbow, Mackinaw and Dolly Varden Trout in abundance, and in the hunting season, Deer, Moose, Cariboo, Goats, Grizzly and Black Bear, a veritable ‘“‘sportsman’s Valhalla.” During the warm summer days a trip through the lakes will ever remain a pleasant event in one’s memory, for a certain indescribable gentleness of harmony throughout the landscape, combines to give this favored spot a rare charm of serenity and repose. ———— BEAR LAKE FORTY-FOUR
