What i is 1 hedge Who are we to decide what it is? Over The Edge CHOICES: COKE OR PEPSI by Sylvia Alder This may seem trivial to all those who ask the question "Coke or Pepsi-What's the difference?" 1 myself am an avid Pepsi drinker and to the editor 1 say Pepsi does not "suck" (this is in referenc to the last issue of - the paper). Even though I do prefer the main drink on campus I do not agree with the fact that Pepsi holds a basic monopoly. One person in particular (the editor) knows what I am talking about when IJ ask what the average Coca-Cola drinker now drinks on campus....Coffee. I find myself, especially in the long cold winter months, leaning towards hot caffeine. To those of you who still insist on Coca-Cola as a self- sustaining beverage to get you through the term, I know where there is a secret stash-but I'll never tell. P.S. To the Editor, Manpreet Sidhu wrote 12 articles in the fourth issue of the Student Newspaper Over the Edge. Successfully answering the question I ponder what position I will receive on the newspaper! Manpreet?! (P.S. This one's for you.) Editor's Note: Pepsi still sux! a over THE EDGE - Wednesday, December 14 , 1994 5 Poison Pen by Ian Lorenz So Quebec is going to separate from Canada..again. Well, I have but one word to Say...au revoir. This whole nonsense question has gone on for far too long. If Quebec doesn't want to be a part of Canada, then so be it. I sincerely wouldn't care one flying fig if Quebec was gone. Everything past the . Rockies is just window dressing anyway. Quebecers believe they have a distinct society and I agree. But it is a distinct Canadian society and if they can not live by the rules of the country it is best that they are gone. British Columbia is every bit just as distinct as Quebec and farther removed from the seat of government power. British Columbians fecl every bit as alienated from the Federal Government as those in Quebec, yet do we insist on a sovereign state? No, and this is because we realize that Canada is a great country to live in. We realize that the United Nations for two years ina row said that Canada was the best, the absolute best to live in. This whole referendum thing has been done before. There is something very deja vu about it. The answer Rene Levesque, and his nationalists, got from the people 14 years ago was a big fat "No". Now Parizcau is going through this farce again. I fear this time the answer will be quite the same. It is a pity really. I sce no need for Quebec as part of the country and would not miss it: Quebec is a nice place and if Quebecers wish to stay in Canada, fine. We are glad to have you but if you insist on a separate set of laws (language, media, civil, etc.) perhaps it is best you go. If Quebec does go (I can only dream) then | hope the Federal Government is firm and makes them start from scratch, Mr. Parizcau believes that an independent - Quebec would use the Canadian dollar, use Canada's pension funds and the citizens of Quebec could use Canadian passports. He also thinks that our Federal Government will assume a large portion of Quebec's debt. I think not. If Quebec wants to stand alone, then let it. Canada is not going to use our . dollars, pension funds, and passporis. We will take away all the government contracts, jobs, and perhaps buildings with us. We are not going to fund a separate state. And we are especially not going to support a state the is anti- anglophone. If Quebecers want their own country let them have it and the problems that go with it. Let's see if they can come up with a workable constitution. If Quebec decides to stay then I say they should have to sign Canada's constitution and we can be done with this whole mess once and for all. It is a colossal waste of time, money and effort to continue down this destructive path. I suppose that most people in Canada would be sad to see Quebec go and even though I have no great love of Quebec I suppose somewhere deep down, way deep down, | would prefer a united Canada. Canada is a strong and beautiful country and the loss of any part of it would be sad but the time had come to decide this. If Quebecers truly want to stay then this had better be the last we hear of sovercignty. If they decide to go I can Bive Mr. Parizeau the same advice my parents gave me when | Icfl. for Vancouver some three years ago "Good bye, good luck...don't ask us to send money," 3333 University Way, Prince George, b.c., V2N 4Z9 Phone: 960-5555, extension 5633 Fax: 960-6330, E-mail WANTED: someone smart Over the Edge Needs a new mouth sharped tounged that is an Roughin’ it in Rez coulumnist expert at making fun of life.
