Disappointingly this album lacks the originality and diversity of it’s 80’s pre- decessors. The vocals are extremely monotone and uninspiring. Most of the tracks are hard to differenti- ate from one another due to the monotonous rhythms and vocals. I find the songs to be very cold and uninvit- ing. This is definitely not music of which to dance to. I did enjoy some of the songs which incorporated some strings into the mix, but that hardly makes up for the lack of originality on the whole. KK Philip Lowry >> Robin Williams Live on Broadway Sony 2002 For some goofy reason, Sony saw, fit to send us a recording of Robin Williams saying funny things. Now I’m breaking ground, as the first member of Over the Edge to review a non-music CD for StN. This is cause for celebration, no? We should call up Jean Chretien and set up a national holiday or something, like I did with my birthday. As far as comedy goes, Robin Williams is God. I mean, seriously - the man is funny. Despite my high opinion of the man, howev- ’ er, this CD was a bit of a dis- appointment. It’s like instead of going for the funny, clever commentary, Williams just got louder. If I could be funny like that, my © life would be so easy! “I had sex. WITH YOUR MOM!!!” See? I made this Retarded line funny, just like Live on Broadway! Sure, I sometimes found myself laughing while I lis- tened to this, but not nearly as often as the audience on the CD did. I guess I just didn’t get it. I think the visu- al humour component, which plays heavily in Robin Williams’ comedy, is sorely lacking on this CD. And, worst of all, the show was cut and edited, so that the CD misses most of Williams’ transitions from joke to joke. In a show where each joke runs into the next like maple syrup into a copious bosom, the transi- tions are really bloody important. Without, a come- dy act can turn from a mas- ter work into a series of goofy, unrelated snippets. Maybe if I could see the video. Maybe I'll just go watch “Death to Smoochy” instead. kK Josh >> Over The Over The Edge Page 10 >> Decoded Feedback Shockwave Metropolis 2003 Decoded Feedback is a two-person show from Europe that has been in exis- tence since 1993. Their origi- nal goal was to “combine the spirit of punk with the cold perfection of electronic music”, which is kind of an interesting idea. That goal was never exactly realized, as Decoded Feedback evolved an industrial sound instead. Now, Decoded Feedback has released their latest album, Shockwave, which is a decent example of what industrial can be. This CD is dark, angsty, and, at times, a bit preten- tious and grandiose. The music features a whole lot of synthesizer, interesting drumbeats, and vocals that make my own throat sore in sympathy with the vocalist. There are also vocals that remind one of the sort of thing that New World Order Edge Ratings * Oh dear God! What Crap ** Stockwell Day-esque **k* Average, now with less ass *kkx*k* Pretty fawking good. kkk kK FLYYYY HIPPITY HOP
