Page 6 os On Saturday, March 13th, Our Lady of Lourdes Mission held a very successful tea and bake sale. The Curling Rink was artiscally decorated with green and white streamers, Shamrocks and little leprecons. After the variety of homemade baking was quickly bought up, the ladies and a few men, sat down at the decorated tables and enjoyed visiting with each other over hot tea and coffee. Three draws were held ‘at the Tea. Mike Hutchen won the painting, Joan Nuttall won the burlap and felt picture of Noah's Arc and Bernice Borsato won the burlap and felt picture of the train. Sfontored ty Or Lad, f BS ne Mession ffom’s & Tots Gum Program There has been the patter of little feet at the Recreation Centre every Tuesday and Thursday from.10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. for the last month. Children between the age of 3-5 are enjoying the opportunity to play with other boys and girls the same age which is somewhat difficult in our ever changing town here in Cassiar during the Winter. The program aims at allowing the child to socialize. create and burn off a little steam every Tuesday and Thursday. Originally the program was structured to have all parents present but after regular evaluation the structure has been changed to meet the needs of the participants. Presently, approximately four mothers organize the activities for two sessions each week which makes it possible for other mothers to allow their children free- dom to develop without the influence of them being pre- sent during the program... Cheerful faces set the tone for most of the program except when a scowl or tear quickly comes and goes when the boys and girls learn to share toys and play nicely. The program opens with a good morning song followed by a free play period of twenty minutes. After this session the boys and girls are a little more relaxed and geared down and sometimes ready to begin in many of the other exciting planned activities such as the Crafts, Music, Planting, Games and Painting program. When the program is half over the children enjoy a short juice and cookie break and sometimes the fun opportunity of singing Happy Birthday to a playmate that has turned another page in their life. The program encourages in- volvement in many different ways and the free play interest areas keep the boys and girls attention with no difficulties at all. Some of these areas are the Toy Bin, Dress Up Corner, Play Dough Corner, Tumbling Mats, Box & Building Area, Colouring, Music and Puzzle Corner. The program was pioneered by all the parents interested and after several meetings with Recreation Co-ordinator Jeff Such the group was encouraged to develop indepen- dancy which resulted in the election of the present Moms and Tots executive: Chairwoman - Terry Ball, Secretary-Treasurer - Pam Krawczyk and Committee Member Judy Fitzsimmons. The C.C.C. sponsored program is truly a success and the success must be attributed to the parents involved for being concerned and willing to share in the responsibility of running the program for the 15-20 boys and girls that come out to enjoy themselves every Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. The program is free of charge and any mothers that would like their child to join in the fun should call: Mrs. Terry Ball - 778-7497, Mrs. Pam Krawczyk - 778-7324, Mrs. Judy Fitzsimmons - 778-7272.
