Oregon Junco--Junco oreganus (Townsend). One of the commonest birds in all the regions visited includ- ing timberline habitat on Rocher Deboule. At Puntchesakut Lake a migration, involving numerous flocks of five or six birds, was observed from May 8 until May 23. During the summer broods of young were met with at various places. A migratory movement was observed first at Francois Lake on August 4, and the number of transients increased in the week that followed. At Puntchesakut Lake flocks containing 20 birds and more were seen frequently: The subspecies represented is Junco oreganus montanus Ridgway Chipping Sparrow-~Spizella passerina (Bechstein). The first chipping sparrows, two, were recorded at Puntchesa- kut Lake on May 8. It was found in varying degrees of abdunance, and nesting in all the localities visited, except Rocher Deboule where none was seen. The first young, being fed by parents, were observed at Nukko Lake on July 5 and the first movement of transi- ents, chiefly young, on July 26. On this date an estimated 200 were recorded along the 20 miles of highway between Houston and Topley. Another migration of 50+, all young, was observed at Francois Lake, August 4 These were passing through and alongside a dry, wooded, creek-bottom. None was seen again in the vicinity until August 8. The subspecies represented is Spizella passerina passerina (Bechstein ) Clay-coloured Sparrow--Spizella pallida (Swainson). An adult female of this species was collected at Bulkley Lake on July 27. This was the only one recorded. White-crowned Sparrow--Zonotrichia leucophrys (Forster). / Noted on migration near Quesnel on May 5, and at Puntchesakut Lake from May 8 to May 12 inclusive.
