1.“Heroes” on NBC.

Hands down the coolest primetime
FV show to come out in a long, long
time, if not ever.

2. Invisibility cloaking.

That's right. American and British sci-
entists have taken the fist step towards
creating a full invisibility cloak by de-
flecting waves around the object as if it
didn't exist. Works on microwaves right
now, but with further work it should
also fool radars and the naked eye.

Halloween Flicks

1. The Exorcist
Actually; we're too scared to watch this
one,.,

2. Rocky Horror Picture Show

You might not think a musical can
be scary, but try going to a Halloween
showing of this cult classic where fans
dress up and recreate scenes from the
move, and see how pétrified you get.

3. Carrie
Stephen King had his career launched
by this horror.

4, Nightmare on Elm Street

Freddy will come for you in your
deams, This movie introduces us to
Freddy Krueger, a classic horror-villiam.
Johnny Depp makes his feature debut,

5. Friday the 13th

‘The first movie, featuring Kevin Bacon
being stabbed through the neck, remains
a classic, Who can forget that guy who
got nailed to the door with arrows, or
that surprise [Hah!] ending. “Kill them,

6, The Evil Dead Trilogy

Bruce Campbell *IS* the Evil Dead
seriés. Although the series got increas-
ingly comedy-centered throughout the
triliogy, the first Evil Dead remains a
horror-classic, with Evil Dead I: Dead
by Dawn remaining a horror/comedy
classic. Army of Darkness (Part HI] is
notable only for Campbell's groovy one-
liners.

7. Psycho [original]
The shower scene, man. The shower
scene.

8. Ghostbusters
Halloween just isn't complete until
you've heard the song.

9, Thriller

In case you didn't know-- yes, Michael
Jackson actually has a movie where -he
lives in a castle, dances, and tries to steal’
the children away from their parents.
Creepy.

10. Gremlins

The first Gremlins movie was both
amusing, and scary [at least when we
were younger]. More scary than the sec-
ond, more comedy-centered sequel, at
least. These little buggers'll mess ya’ up!

3, Bill Murray

While in Scotland recently, the 56-
year-old actor turned up at a party being
thrown by Scariinavian college students.
He cracked some jokes, did the dishes,
and then left.

‘4, The Cliks- “Cry Me A River.”

This hot new Canadian band make
Justin Timberlake rock out.

5. UNICEF

After scrapping the tradition of hay-
ing children collect money while trick-
or-treating, this organization is back, By
focusing on specific projects (schools in
Malawi), they are able to make a greater
impact, and people understand what
they're donating for a little better,
