x i RY RR na ates SAFETY NOTFS: Humorous side on the accident prone. I hope we have no employees like this -- Read this letter from a bricklayer, re- printei in a Rritish newspaper: “Respected Sir: When I got to the building, I found that the hurricane had knocked some bricks ; off the top, so I rigged e beam with a pulley at the top of the building and hoistei up sa couple of barrels of bricks. When I had fixed the building, there waa a lot of bricks left over. I hoisted the barrel back up sgeain and secured the line at the bottom, and ' then went up and filled the barrel with the extra bricks. Then I went to the bottom and cast off the line. Unfortunately the barrel of bricks was heavier than I was and before I knew what was happening, the barrel started down, jerking me off the ground. to hang on, and half way up I met the barrel coming down and received a severe tlow on the shoulder. I then continued to the top, banging my head on the beam and getting my fingers jawmed in the pulley. When the barrel hit the grouni it burst its bottom spilling the bricks out. I was now heavier than the barrel and so started down again at high speed. Half way iown I met the barrel coming up again ani suffered severe in‘uries to my shins. When I hit the ground I landei on the bricks, receiving painful cuts from the sharp edges. At this point I must have lost ny | presence of mini, because I let go the line. The barrel then came down again, giving me another heavy blow on the heai. I respectfully request sick leave.” Taken from the White Pass Container Route News. Cc.
