Congratulations to “r. A. “cAndrew who has just been appointed Provincial Judge and Coroner for the province of British Columbia. "art" as he is known as by most of Cassiar, was educated in Vancouver and obtained a Batchelor's degree from the University of Rritish Columbia. He has been in the teaching profession for twenty five years, holding teaching and principalships in Haney, Vancouver Island and Cassiar. Art auu his family first arrived here in 1957 and stayed until 1959. He returned again in 1962 and stayed this time for five years until 1%7 and then he returned again in 1968. OUR NEW JUDGE Art's daughters received most of their education Page 9 here and his eldest daughter, Heather, was married here, his youngest daughter, Kathy, is at present working in the Retail Store, no doubt planning her future. Resides his close connection with the community through his profession, Art is also involved in other community activities. He is the present president of Lions International, has been president of the Curling Club and is a founder member of the Cassiar Vets Association. During the Second Woriu War, Art served in the R.C.A.F. for four years and during his overseas service, met and married his wife, Margaret. FAREWELL ROWAN A farewell party, hosted jointly by Mr. Mrs. B. Kovacs and Mr. Mrs. W. Giachino was held at the Guest Lodge on April 24th, in honour of Rowan Rowett, a well know ‘old timer' in Cassiar. Rowan Rowett - a well travelled, well versed Australian, who was always ready with a joke or a story left Cassiar after six years (this duration). Rowan, a Shift Boss at the Mine was also an active member of the local Lions Club and was also our "Hanging"??? Judge for a period of time. His plans seem to be to travel through the East - China and India and of course, go home and terrorize Australia for a while and from there, returm to Canada and perhaps set up an Apartment building or a tourist business in Vancouver or even Whitehorse.
