most gruesome murders.

“Her head was covered with blood
which was congealing,” said Con-
stable Eagle of Mrs. Smith. “I felt
her leg. It was cold and stiff and I
knew she was dead.”

Upstairs they found Mrs. Wallberg
lying across a bed. She was moaning.
“Her hair was matted with blood,”
said Eagle. “Her eyes were so puffed
that she could not see and her nose
was a pulpy mass.”

Constable Simpson said Mrs.
Wallberg was so badly beaten up he
could not recognize her as a woman.

“As she lay there, feebly trying to
pick her blood-matted hair from her
face, she made statements which we
could. not understand,’ he later
stated. Mrs. Wallberg has been blind
in her right eye ever since the
attack.

TWENTY-SIXTH EDITION

Mrs. Smith died from severe and
extensive brain injuries. In the brutal
beating her skull was fractured 12
times.

Detectives found two notes signed
by Jones on the kitchen table. An
immediate call was sent out for his
arrest. The notes read:

“Y Will Kill Until I Am Dead”

‘Dear World, what I have done
is to show the world that when you've
lost the one thing you love, Peggy
Bowen, the world and no one in it
means anything to you.”

“Dear Lover, As if I hoped you can
be as sweet as this and only to me.
You made me do this. The ring gave
you all my love and without it and
you I am dead. I killed because my
love won my love and I will kill until
I am dead.”

While Vancouver police and de-
tectives combed the city, Jones calmly
went home, changed, and met Peggy
Bowen when she finished work. They
