INETY-SIX B.C. hunters have
lost their lives through hunting
accidents in the past fifteen
years. It’s quite a record, isn’t it?
Perhaps you knew one of these
fellows—some keen youngster who
started out one morning on a deer
hunt, and came out of the bush that
night on a blood-stained stretcher,
limp—and dead. Dead from a fellow
hunter’s bullet.

And just think that every year, this
year, next year and the next, six or

the hunting season. Why it’s just plain
senseless, isn’t it?

To get a line on the problem I
spent a little time chatting with Inspr.
G. C. Stevenson (Stevie to all and
sundry) who has charge of the warden
force on Vancouver Island, with head-
quarters at Victoria.

He told me that west of the Cas-

are more shotgun accidents.

“J Thought It Was a Deer”

According to Inspr. Stevenson, high
on the list of causes is the well known
“T thought it was a deer” error. Some-
body gets “buck fever” and let's drive
at what he thinks is a deer—it turns
out to be another hunter.
