SHELBY PETERSEN EDITOR IN CHIEF While it might seem as if spring will never come with this thick blanket of snow covering the whole city and constantly fluctuating temperatures, but the season is closer than you think. Most of the stores have already forsaken their winter stock for what seems like a less practical array of bathing suits, sandals and dresses. So, if going to the mall isn’t torture enough here are three looks which are sure to be popular when spring finally makes it way to our northern abode. Nautical CHICTOPIA The Nautical look is pretty much a spring time staple. Every year elements of this timeless trend pop up on the runway and on the streets. Investing in a bretton top (horizontal stripes) and a navy skirt would be a wise choice because you will get endless wearability out of these must have pieces. Put them together with a bright red cardigan and you might just be America’s sweetheart. Longer Hem Lines The age old addage is that the better the economy gets, the longer the hemlines. The practicality of this statement comes from being able to afford more material when the economy is better and less when a recession hits (thus shorter hemlines). While some economists say that we are heading towards a double dip, fashionistas of the world did not get the memo. This year heamlines have fallen as designers opt for a more elegant 50s silhouette. Paired with an adorable pair of wedges or pumps this season’s hottest trend can take you from the office to a party with only a few minor changes. One thing is for sure, this look definitely has the approval of you grandparents. Light and Airy CHICTOPIA There is nothing more elegant than lace. This season emphasizes everything erethral and airy. Expect to see a high number of garments made out of chiffon, lace, and silk in light pinks and cremes. The best way to offset the girlyness of this trend is to pait it with opaque black tights and tougher boots.
