CURLING CLUB The members of the Cassiar Curling Club have put in another few weeks of good curling. There have been two draws since Christmas, the first one ending the first week in February. There were twenty-one teams partici- pating, divided into three groups. The play-off was a hard battle which was finally won by the John Forbes rink. The Gary Begon rink was second and the Bruce Roe rink was third. The second draw of 1974, filling up February, also had twenty-one teams on the go, with three groups once - again. The Gary Begon rink was the winner this time, with the Carol Niedermayer rink second and the Gerry Bermel rink third. On the weekend of February 23-24 was the Ladies Bonspiel and Social. The ladies thoroughly enjoyed themselves and give special thanks to that marvelous short-order cook, Ed Thirlwell, for the great snacks all day Saturday. The "'A'' event of the Bonspiel was won by the Mary Ann Isidoro rink with the Nancy Turner rink coming second. The winner of the ''B" event was the Murill Yorke rink with the Mary Tomashewski rink second. Everyone is looking forward to Cassiar's 20th Annual Bonspiel on March 14-17. There are 10 out-of-town teams signed up to date so it will be a good chance for local teams to meet some different competition. Has everyone noticed the changes in the club lounge? We have 90 square feet of extra floor space, a real boon during our socials. And our bar looks very elegant with the wood-panelled trim. Thanks from us all to Ed Michael. JOHN FORBES UNDER ATTACK FOR UNSCRUPULOUSLY DEALING TEACHERS, 2:00 A.M. DRAW - INTER-DEPT. BONSPIEL. On March 2, 10 rinks competed in a knockout Curling Bonspiel. A cocktail party at 7:00 p.m. and a very swell dinner at 8:00 p.m. was enjoyed by all. Thanks to Lion Mike's Cafeteria for such fine food. Seventy Lions and guests participated in the dinner and dancing and the curling continued on till 4:00 a.m. Sunday. President of Cassiar Lions presented awards to a few deserving Lions and also to a few of the Lion's wives that do a great deal to help and promote Lionism in Cassiar. Cassiar Lions donated $150.00 to the Grade 4 students of the local schgol to help pay for their trip to Van- couver to see all the sights of the exciting but monstrous city. Cassiar Lions allocated $400 for materials to be used to make picnic tables and benches for the various picnic grounds at 4 mile and Cottonwood River. ?
