One of the outstanding challenges to us all at the
present time is the rising toll of death, injury and
property damage caused through traffic accidents.

Last year the number of reportable motor-vehicle
accidents occurring in this Province was greater
than ever before and during the first five months of
this year such accidents have increased by 29.2%
over the number recorded during the similar period
last year.

Investigation of the causes of such accidents
discloses the fact that the majority of the same are
the direct result of carelessness on the part of both
motor-vehicle drivers and pedestrians.

Unfortunately, it would appear that until such
time as every motor-vehicle driver and pedestrian
accepts his personal responsibility to obey the rules
and regulations made for the purpose of protecting
life and property, we shall continue to have this
wanton loss.
