The two girls had been captured by Indians and were suspected of being “bewitched.” The military aeroplane carry- ing police was only just in time (having picked up instructions by radio) to save the lives of these girls. Ten years ago the flying squad did not exist. Now “Flying Squad” means a fleet of fast cars. In five years’ time the British “Flying Squad” may be a real flying squad of aero- planes, co-operating with police cars and putting the final nail in the coffin of gang- ster warfare and “smash-and-grab” raids. JOHN MACDONALD INSPECTOR J. MACDONALD, who is in command of “B” Division, Nelson, was born at Baleshare, Inverness-shire, Scotland. For fourteen and one-half years prior to coming to Canada, he served on the Glas- gow City Police and was an Inspector for the Scottish National Society for the Pre- vention of Cruelty to Children. Joined the Provincial Police in August, 1913; was stationed at Nanaimo, Cumberland, Union Bay and Vancouver. In 1918 he was transferred to Nelson in charge of the West Kootenay Police Dis- trict. In the winter of 1918-19, he was again transferred this time to Vancouver in charge of the Motor Branch which had been formed at that time. In September, 1919, he was transferred to New Westminster in charge of that dis- trict; in 1928, transferred to Penticton, in charge of the Boundary Police District, and when the new Chilliwack Police District was formed in 1929, was given that appoint- ment. In 1930, he was transferred to Prince Rupert as Acting Inspector and con- firmed in the rank of Inspector in 1931, In August, 1932, he was transferred to Nelson to take charge of “B” Division. In February, 1933, was appointed a Jus tice of the Peace for the Province of British Columbia.
