little mishaps there was always some- one to help get the machine back on the trail. We are sure everyone had a good time. FRANK KLIMENT PRES {NENT ee ee em EE 8 Oe Oo SKIING In the: 7 2:8t two o: three years skiing has be :ome incr :asingly rfopu- lar in Cassier and thi» year shows promise of continuing the trend. Last year, as most of you hnow a Yukon Cup Race was heli here. This sparked a keca interest in skiing and with two races slated in Cassiar this year we feel assured that enthusiasm will continue to increase. Durin:y the summer, McDame Mtn. Ski Club mide an important change. Up until this tiwe the club has been an: isolated mamt2r of the Wéestem Division of the Can:dien Amateur Ski Association. Because of ovr proximity to the Yukon, it was sugzested that we join the Yukon Division. Tha Club Executive then went to the Yukon Division President (who happens to be Jerry Lees) end in mid June, at a meeting in Montreal, Cassiar became a member of the Yukon Division of the C.A.S.A. With the coming season McDame Mtn. Ski Club will be sending a team to compete for the Yukon Cup and from this competition a team will be chosen to represent the Yukon Division in the Canada Winter Games this February. So let us see a few more "Hot Shots" on the slope, and put Cassiar in the running. CROSS COUNTRY SKI TEAM A World Class cross country ski team arrived in Cassiar on December 14. The team had been invited to Cassiar to help prepare themselves for inter- national competition. It is hoped that during their stay our local skiers may benefit from their practices and demonstrations. These skiers have won inter-- national races in Europe and North America and there is every possib- ility that they may be Olympic Gold Medal winners of the future. We ask that our community extend their usual hospitality to these athletes to make their stay a pleasant one. ; G. BARKER PRESIDENT CASSIAR DRUM CORPS. A Trumpet and Dium Corps has been formed in our tom. At the present time instruction is being given in both instruments. Although an effort is being made to secure additional instruments more support is needed and any dona- tion, no matter how small, will zo a long way to giving us a band for community events and parades. More boys and girls are needed now to round out the band membership. There is to be no cost to the _ bandsman for instrument or instruction, other than $1.00 per month for music and instrument repair. The only stip- ulation being that members be from Grades 4 to 9. Anyone already playing or owning a brass or reed instrument will be most welcome. All donations may be made directly to the “‘Cassiar Drum Corps" account at the Royal Bank.
