By Destrudo This issue’s item is the Digitech RP30OO Modeling Guitar Processor. This unit has more functions than you can shake a Petrucci at, with onboard expression pedal, learn a lick func- tion, and built in guitar tuner to name a few. Apparently, this unit has been called the best multi-effect pedal Shak kespeare’ 5 ow Closet ce And VixenWear TAKE A PEEK 6& Custom Sewing and alterations by Vixen Wear “ag pate ts nt forhing at Shakespeare’s Closet Hours: Monday 12:00 to 5:00 ‘i Tuesday to Saturday 10:00 to 5:00 Closed Sundays you can get for under $500, and | could be led to believe this. This unit features amp modeling, speaker cabinet model- ing with mic placement, wah models, compres- sion, a noise gate, an equalizer, modulation effects, delay, reverb, and the ability to assign the expression pedal to virtually any parameter. Whew! That’s a mouth full, but it only scrapes 235 Quebec St. Prince George (250) 561-2435 the surface of what can be accomplished with this unit. As usual, the factory presets are 99% lame, but they do give you an overview of the machine’s abilities. Within the modulation effects alone there are 16 different types to choose from, such as, triggered phaser, whammy, chorus, enve- lope filter, and synth talk to name a few. Another mouthful, but again, only the tip of the iceberg. For each mod- ulation effect you have up to four parameters to control with corre- sponding Knobs. On the board are five knobs and the first one allows you to pick the modula- tion type and the others control the parameters. It is the same for other features also, such as the amp modeling. The second knob allows you to pick from 12 amp models and the others allow you adjust gain level, amp level, and speaker cabinet model with four variant mic positions on anything from a 1X12 to a 4X12 half stack. The first knob, with respect to amp modeling allows you to pick from A and B amps, which allows you to select two amps or gain stages for each preset you design. The delay allows you to take advantage of this units stereo appli- cations. Oh, did | men- tion it had stereo out- puts? Well, it does. The stereo outputs gives you the ability to use the ping pong delay with two amps to attain stereo distinction with your effect. Or, you can use the headphone out to record direct from the unit on to a digital source, for example, a computer. The reverb effect fea- tures ten different types of reverb: Studio, Wood Room, Club, Plate, Hall, Amphitheater, Church, Parking Garage, Arena, and Spring. That is a lot of reverb, perhaps too much. Another neat function is the ability to assign parameters to the expression pedal. With this feature you can assign volume, gain, speed, depth, amount, and attack to mention a few. It is all pretty over- whelming. This unit is definitely complicated, but that is not to say that the beginner can- not use it. It has a very solid construction, although, the input and output jacks are not bolted to the chassis, but it would be very hard to damage them regardless. The unit also comes with a power supply. | would definitely sug- gest checking out this unit if multi-effects are your thing and you do not want to spend too much to get it. This unit can be found at Electron Sound & Percussion 3658 Massey Drive for about $350-$375.
