The collected sample is then transported to the
laboratory for analysis. Particulate analysis
required is normally gravimetric. In the case of
asbestos, fibre analysis may be required. Most
gaseous pollutant samples would be analysed using
colorimetric and spectophotometric techniques. For
cases where continuous monitoring is required, a
field located analyzer, possibly infra red, is
necessary.

Costs for emission analysis vary depending
on the method, but as a rough guide the following
may be used.

a) CONSULTANTS: $200/sample

Air fare, on site transportation, access
to sites, etc., plus $100 per technician
per day are extra. To do the Powerhouse
stacks for example would require about

4 to 5 days and cost about $5000.

b) CASSIAR ENVIRONMENTAL: $30/sample
& Equipment and Labour

Equipment: Sampling train $5000
Reagents $ 200
Filters $ 100
Micro Balance $1500
Spectophotometer $1000
Miscellaneous $1000

$8800

In a month perhaps 50 samples could be collected
and analyzed; considering wages and other costs including
equipment, approximately 50 samples would be the break
even point of cost/ sample equivalency to basic con-
sultant costs. Any further sampling would only cost
about 10% of consultants equivalent.
