Q Spreading conspiracy theories since 1994 NUGSS AGM attendance was able to reach just over 3% for quorum - that’s 83+ students! Go team! By 9:30 in the morning it was clear that there were more than enough people in attendance to make quorum and that the meeting would com- mence. With a sign in sheet circulating amongst the students and club rep- resentatives the AGM was called to order at 9:37 while everyone munched on their complimentary muffins. The agenda for the meeting was quite short with only four points of dis- cussion, The first item on the agenda was the Auditor's Re- port. The auditor, who was from KPMG, ran through NUGSS’ financial records for the past year. The Auditor assured the students that all of the NUGSS finances were in order and that everything was operating as expected. The biggest change to NUGSS'’ finances pertained to both the Thirsty Moose and the Degrees Coffee Shop. As is expected in all new business operations, the construction on the NUSC building and its various establishments has put NUGSS in debt. However, additional funds were set aside to aide both the Thirsty Moose and the Degrees Coffee Shop in their first year of oper- ation. The NUSC building cost 3.3 million dollars to build and was made possible by student assessments and a loan from the Bank of Montreal with a long term interest rate of 5.8%. Following the conclusion of the Auditor's report a motion was made to pass the report and use KPMG as the official NUGSS Auditor. Second on the agenda were the director's reports. Basically, the director's reports consisted of a detailed summary of what each of the NUGSS dir- ectors have been doing since they were elected. Each director's report was quite similar with all of the directors participating in the usual events such as Shinerama, The Final Affair, and The Backyard BBQ, Several of the NUGSS directors, however, have been working on separate projects to im- prove student life and NUGSS effectiveness. NUGSS President Lindsay Gardner has been working to improve relations between NUGSS and the “The biggest change to NUGSS'’ finances pertained to both the Thirsty Moose and the Degrees Coffee Shop. Furthermore, Gardner has been attending events with UNBC President Iwama to discuss a myriad of different issues concerning UNBC and its student population. Other NUGSS directors who have been working on some unique and promising initiatives include Vice President Finance Jennifer Kwan, who is working on producing bi-weekly financial reports which will be available upon request. Most interesting however, are the initiatives that Vice Pres- ident Student Affairs, Kaleigh Milinazzo, has been working on. Along with creating this year’s clubs package and the clubs page in the student plan- Second World War from a German Standpoint-Page 4 net, Milinazzo has been working on worksheets for each of the directors to fill out once their term is over. These worksheets would record each of the director's responsibilities and initiatives while at NUGSS making the transition between directors more coherent. Most importantly, Milinazzo is also reviewing the NUGSS election procedures in an attempt to garner more involvement. Milinazzo is working towards some form of policy that will allow student to cast absentee ballots during NUGSS elections. The third item on the agenda was the by-law amendment. A motion was put forward to increase the number of people who are currently allowed to sit on the Environmental Transportation Committee. The by-law amendment also changed who is now able to sit on the committee. On the days leading up to the NUGSS AGM the ad- vertisements around the school stated that there were positions within NUGSS available. Earlier this se- mester, NUGSS Associate Director of Events Ciaran Olsen resigned from his position with NUGSS because of his heavy course load. As is fitting with current NUGSS policy new candidates had to be nominated at the AGM and subsequently voted into office during a forth- coming bi-election. There were two students nominated f r the position to November . The two students nominated are Alphonsus Hollohan and Morgan SL Biographies of each candidate can be found 9 the NUGSS web- site. Bi-elections will be held fom November 9-10" between 9am and who will run during a campaign that lasts from October 29° 4pm in the Wintergarden. oy Lert nye
