is being made by a police expert

All known information about
Warren along with the photograph
was published in the Police Gazette,
a publication which is sent out to all
police forces in Canada every month,
advising them of men wanted in other
parts of the country and similar un-
derworld “social” news.

The photograph was recognized by
the chief of police in Kingsville, Ont.,
who advised the Mounties that the
same man was wanted by them for
stealing a platinum ring from a
Kingsville citizen on November 5.
While the man had not been identi-
fied by the Kingsville police they did
have a liquor bottle which they be-
lieved he had handled, and this they
sent to the Crime Detection Labora-
tory where impressions of the prints
were taken and forwarded to the
Fingerprint Section for identification.

The prints, however, were incom-
plete and could be used only to match
with a known set of prints. They
could not be used to make a “search”
of the thousands of prints on file.

TWENTY-FOURTH EDITION

Here the trail seemed to end. Then
the Crime Index took over. The name
Ralph Warren was run through the
files of stolen and unrecovered prop-
erty and it was found that a wallet
had been stolen some time before
from Ralph Warren in Prescott, Ont.
This convinced the police that the
wanted man was using an alias so
