She clasped it to her breast with many extrav- agant terms of endearment. The cat, no doubt, was delighted to be home again, but she showed her pleasure by industriously clawing the arm of her mistress to such an extent that blood dripped from the scratches to the floor. Regaining her composure somewhat, the lady explained to me that her cat had been stolen, and when she saw it in the post office she certainly was not going to bring it home herself. The postmaster knew it was her cat and he should have returned it. As he was keeping it around and feeding it, it showed that he wanted to steal it, so she called the police. She volunteered the in- formation that some people thought she was crazy, but she wasn’t and she could prove it. She rummaged in a bureau. drawer and _ triumphantly thrust forward a document for me to read. It was signed by a prominent Kamloops physician, and set forth that he had examined so-and-so as to her mental condition and found her to be sane. “Well,” exclaimed the lady, “there’s lots of people around here who think they’re not crazy, but they can’t prove it, like I can!” I shook my head and said good morning. When I left she was starting to cut up a pair of old overalls to make a harness for the cat. I wondered as I tramped back down the road, just how she proposed to tether her feline. Safecrackers at Chu Chua Fennell’s General Store at Chu Chua, 90 miles north of Kamloops, seemed to be a natural set-up for burglars and safe-crackers. During the time-I was at Blue River it was broken into several times. On one occasion when the safe was blown, blankets from the stock were piled high around it, and a charge of ex- plosives out of all proportion to the job, was used. The resulting explosion just about wrecked the whole store. The front windows at the opposite end of the building were blown out, and bits of glass were found a hun- dred yards away. What stock that was not actually damaged was covered with a thick layer of dust. Merchan- dise from the shelves was strewn over the counters and floor. On this occasion, police from Kamloops in strength moved in and there was an intensive search of the district until the perpetrator was finally appre- hended. Another time the store was broken into and considerable merchandise, consisting of leather Indian gloves and clothing was stolen. Also a quantity of currency in bills and W. P. Anderson & W. E.
