any man who had strength to kill Wasgo and wear his skin also
acquired Wasgo's strength and could catch al] the whales he de-
sired, though, happily, he would not also be tempted to whet his
appetite by eating young children. Now, the missing man had
long planned and schemed to catch Wasgo though he never told this
to his companions. He had decided that same day to prepare the
very ingenious trap he had devised which to his great satisfac-
tion was successful, for, after some hours, he found Wasgo dead,
strangled in the grip of this strong trap.

Without delay the ingenious man got the huge creature out
of the water where the trap was set, removed the skin and put
it on himself. Instantly he was seized with the feeling to
go and catch whales. After doing so he returned to his village
and delighted his people with his power always to keep them
