Page 14 Dec. 1987 Cassiar Courier 696SSSS3SS: Lady of L ission } ourdes Mission | Submitted by Louise Clark November was a special month with ALL SAINTS DAY falling on November Ist. The service itself began with the singing of the Litany of Saints, followed by the gospel on the Beatitudes. Assisting Father with the read- ings were Sonia Saro; Sandy McGill, Janice Coran, and Mary Molan. The girls did a wonderful job, and it was really nice to see these young people taking an active part in the celebration of Mass. Father’s homily emphasized the Beatitudes, that reinforces this essential quality of Sainthood and that of all Holy men and women. .Some Saints are most familiar to us like: ST. JOSEPH, ST. PATRICK, ST, THERESE, ST. ANTHONY, and my favorite, ST. MONICA, Patron Saint of Wives and Mothers. But there are Holy men and women who have suffered whom we may never have thought of us Saints of our time. Some of these are Martin Luther King, Jerzy Popiellszko, Mahatma Ghandi, Mother Teresa, Oscar Romero, and Anne Frank. These Saints of Conscience along with our own personal depart- ed are also remembered on ALL SOULS DAY, Nov. 2nd. Our congregation is also blessed with a great group of altar servers. The Eucharistic celebration would not be the same without these young people. MARY MOLAN, SONIA SARO, VALADO KOVACIC, LEIGH DESJAR- DINS, STEVEN VIDOVIC, CHAD CLARK, DAMIEN MCGUINNESS, RUI MARQUES, DUBO KOVACIC, SCOTT CAMERON, MICHAEL TYNE, GEORGE SARO, VANESSA CLARK, JENNIFER CAVANAGH, KEN SMITH, TONY PISONIC, BYRON CLARK, WILLIAM MCGILL, ROBERT SARO, LILLIAN NEWBERG, HEATHER CAMERON AND LUIS BEXIGA are our faithful servers. As this is going to the press we are looking forward to a visit from Bishop Tom Lobsinger on November 23rd. We hope his schedule and the weather will allow him to visit then. If not, we look forward to having him here in the Spring as we have a number of young people in our parish preparing for confirmation. We will begin another season of Advent on Nov. 29th. During the four weeks prior to Christmas we prepare for His coming. Advent has two main stages. In the final weeks we turn more to remembering his coming at the first Christmas. Advent is a season of hope, joy and anticipation. Great artists of our community have given us sym- bols and signs that help us get ready and mark the steps in our Advent journey. The Advent Wreath: A crown or circle is used as a sign of eternity. No beginning, no end. The crown or circle is covered with evergreen boughs. A sign of hope. On this four candles are placed. (Traditionally three purple and one rose colored.) FIRST WEEK OF ADVENT SECOND WEEK light one purple candle. two purple candles are lit. THIRD WEEK (Holy Name Sun.) two purple and one rose candle are lit. FOURTH WEEK all four candles are lit. The light is reminding us that Jesus, the Light of the World is coming. The Jesse Tree: A bare tree with no leaves is used. Sun- day after Sunday symbols tell us of these great people of the Old Testament who hoped, prepared and announced the coming of the Messiah. PERSON or EVENT SYMBOLS USED Creation Sun - World - Noah’s Ark Patriarchs Abraham’s tent, Joseph’s coat of many colours.
