WOMENS’ ELSIE DEFALGUE: Elsie Defalgue is stenographer to the Mill Superinten- dent, which has been her job since her arrival in Cassiar approximately 5 years ago. Prior to coming to Cassiar, Elsie had been in Montreal and then in Vancouver. She was not pleased with employment or wages in Vancouver, so answered an ad. for a short order cook in Watson Lake. During her duration in Watson, the thermometer dropped to 74 degrees below zero and in no wav was she going to stick around and freeze to death so, she headed for the Banana Belt ---?---- Cassiar, where she has been ever since. Elsie's comment on Cassiar is - "I love it, every aspect of it and I can't see myself leaving, it seems as though I have found something I've been looking for". MARY ELHORN: | a= em 2 - es The nucleus of a hospital could very well be the nurses and Cassiar is blessed with pleasant, efficient nurses coming and going fromeall over the continent. Mary Elhorn is one of these girls, hailing from New Zealand. Mary came to Cassiar with Elizabeth Troughton almost three years ago. They came to Cassiar to save money and to go to the Olympic Games in Mexico. However, Mary never did pet to those Olympic Games - she did something more exciting and daring - she met and married Page 12 PAGE Ray Elhorn and they settled down in Cassiar. Mary worked her way up in the three years, from Nurse to our hard working Charge Nurse. She likes her job very much and thinks the other girls are terrific. She likes Cassiar more as the years go by. ROSE EBBINGHOFF: Rose Ebbinghoff works for Gordon Edwards in the Maintenance Control Office. She first worked for Industrial Relations and was the one who helped start up the training centre. Roae came to Cassiar nearly four years ago - unmarried. She planned to save money and travel around Europe. After little more than a year, Europe, at least Germany, came to her in the form of August Ebbinghoff! They were married on July 15th, 1967 in Natal, B.C. Rose's home town. Last summer another of Rose's dreams was fulfilled - she and August spent five weeks in Europe. And now the Ebbinghoffs are settled down and are expecting their first baby this coming summer. Three wishes granted in four years. Cassiar could be considered a pretty good Genie... SHARON _LEES Sharon Lees is one of the many school teachers responsible for educating the Cassiar children.
