wry Cassiar Mining To Begin Operations Again After a two week shut down Cassiar Mining announced yet an— other shut down of operations, commencing as of 8:00 A.M., Tues— day, January 15. 1991, due ta poor ore delivery which affected fibre production, therefore, poor cash flow. A&A new crusher being in- stalled undertook progress, be- ginning shortly after the lay- off, employing the underground crews and employees who were qualified to meet under ground work standards and had enough seniority rights for further em— ployment with the underground operations. Some employees laid off ut— ilized any accumulated time off such as annual vacation, extended vacation, debouching, etc. to comprise the period of the lay- off. The new crusher has been installed and the mill operations ta commence as of Saturday Feb. 2, 1991, and all other operations to be back to normal by Feb. 4, 1991. since Cassiar Mine Valley in Winter Cassiar Peer Counselling Program In November members of the hospital board and callege board yeceived notice af a Provincial Grant toa aid small B.C. commini— ties in assessing and improving their health. Howard Baker, a counsellor at Caesiar Secandary School, prepared an application foy this grant based on a per ceived need ta help ease the problems in Cassiar related ta its isolation: lemeliness de- pressian, family crisis, and drug-alcoheal abuse. His propasal was toa institute a community and school centered peer ccunselling program. Cassiar Mining Company, pub— lic agencies and community heip-~ ing greups were cantacted = and quickly cantributed letters caf support, and the judging commit— tee in Victoria agreed to waive regulations which would have pre—- vented Cassiar’s application fram being accepted for consideration. A grant af $21,350 was won and the hospital was accepted as the parent body for the program. Screening is now in progress for potential workshep and peer caun— selling candidates.
