February 10.2003 Binder and Movie: A Date Review Restaurant Choice: Meteora Taverna 1238 - 5th Avenue (250) 544-3005 Type of Cuisine: Greek Entree price range: $15.95 -$16.95 Open: Mon-Sat 4:30pm-10.00pm Sun 5.00pm - 9:00pm Wade’ s Perspective If you’re looking for Greek you won't be disappointed with the Meteora Taverna. Our waitress was excellent, giving us our choice of booth or table and dimming the lights for us, instinctively knowing we were there for a date. When wine was requested I was asked to first taste the wine before accepting it and I did my best wine test for clarity, aroma and taste. Also, when I was proposing a toast the waitress held off from coming to the table until we were completely done. Classy moves in my book. Menu selection was not huge but. was decent enough, hitting most of the Greek dishes that should be expected. It covered the base set of souvlaki dishes, from which I chose the beef. After the delicious Avgolemono soup (lemon chicken) the sou- vlaki came out and in Greek tradition filled a very large plate. The beef was cooked perfect- ly and tasted grand. If you are looking for a cosy restaurant to take a close personal friend for dinner, checkout the Meteora Taverna! Martin Lawrence cracks me up and Steve Zahn is pretty funny as well. These two guys are the stars of National Security; a good cop, bad police academy cadet gone security guards movie. In the course of this movie Earl ‘ (Lawrence) and Hank (Zahn), become securi- ty guards for the same company and befriend each other when they get involved in a police matter. I especially liked ‘little Earl’ so look for ‘him’ if you see this one. On the comedy side the two actors don’t complement each other as much as they probably intended to. The movie is still fairly funny, but overall it feels like the director told them “more yelling at each other!” as that seems to be the extent of Zahn’s role whereas Lawrence gets to. do slightly more. I think this would be a decent movie to pick up for five bucks at the video store and watch with friends, but don’t waste your money in the theatre. Wade Rates It Restaurant: ***&* (Overall) Atmosphere: toe Service: KK KAK _ Cuisine: beable _ Movie Choice: National Security Cast: Martin Lawrence, Steve Zahn, Bill Duke Type of Movie: Action, Comedy Rating: PG | Running time: 1 hour, 41 minutes 1 Movie Times: 70pm and 9:30pm Mary’s Perspective All Ihave to. say is WOW! Who would have known that this little tiny restaurant tucked away on a street downtown would be one of the best restaurants I have ever dined at. The outside of the Taverna was authentic and def- initely stood out amongst the other business’ downtown. Inside was nicely decorated with artificial grapes and vines along the top of the. booths and a mock statute of David. We were greeted by, in my opinion, one of the nicest waitresses I have ever met. We sat in the most spacious booth I have ever seen (which is good, when you are stuffed on their awesome food, you have room to lean back and stretch). As I normally do, I ordered calamari as my appetizer. Expecting chewy calamari that I usually receive, I was very surprised. This calamari was the best I have ever had in my life, and I have eaten at a lot of restaurants. There was a wide selection of appetizers, entrees and desserts as well as a very exten- sive drink list. I ordered the beef souvlaki, which came with a whole plate of food. It was excellent. I also had dessert, which was awe- some. With this great experience, I see this restaurant as the Greek treasure of Prince George. I love comedy, so when I picked this movie it was because Martin Lawrence and Steve Zahn were starring in it. Right away, you find that Hank (Zahn) is a cop, and that Earl (Lawrence) is an LAPD reject. By a chance meeting at a traffic stop their “friendship” is formed. Six months later they meet again, only now Hank is a security guard and Earl is his partner. The movie is a regular action/comedy, good guys chasing the bad guys, but with a lot of good laughs in between. I would recommend this as a date movie because it has action for those who love action, and comedy for those who love comedy. And for those like me, who love Martin Lawrence.
