Easter Message by Rev. Oscar Pauwels Dear people of Cassiar, No matter how mild the winter is, there is no doubt for us in the Cassiar region that we will be . snowed in. If it wasn’t for the Department of High- ways or the graders and shovels in town we would be snowed under. Even each individual householder needs to keep in shape with regular snow shovelling. It is a time of the year which requires effort, imposed by the weather conditions. Still no one denies that it is a healthy effort and a healthy season. Snow can even be a source of enjoyment - with cross country or alpine skiing, snowshoeing, skidooing and tobogganing. Even then, as soon as we notice signs of spring we rejoice, we admire the sunshine, we enjoy the longer days, we plan a day off, a weekend in the mountains or at the lake. Without winter we would never enjoy spring as much. Is that not a perfect setting for a parable about Lent and Easter, about death and resurrection, about life on earth and life in heaven? Jesus the Savior revealed the mystery of death and life in a striking way: 1) “I have come to the world as its light to keep anyone who believes in me from remaining in the dark”. John 12:46 2) “Unless the seed falls into the ground and dies it remains just-a grain of wheat, but if it dies it pro- duces much fruit.”. TH. 12:24 3) ‘‘There is no greater love than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. The command I give you is this ‘that you love one another’. -TH 15 f HAPPY EASTER TO ALLL 2s + Palm Sunday - April 3rd by Marie Tracy Cont:..WEIGHT CONTROL and QUITTING SMOKING The chief cause of weight gain is always based on the consumption of more food (calories) than the body requires for transportation and maintenance. Several problems or plusses, (de- pending on how you look at it) experienced by a person who has stopped smoking include: eat- ing more because food tastes great when taste buds are not anesthetized by the heat and chem- icals in the tobacco smoke. This improved sense of taste and smell can turn a mediocre appetite into a ravenous hunger for the first few weeks of nonsmoking and although | recommend that every quitter indulge in at least a one week food orgy, it will be necessary to use some discretion in what one eats as well as when one eats after that one binge. The Sacrament, of Baptism and Marriage will take place after 7 9 sugar. and salt decreases when taste buds are keen, this immediately eliminates the need for some of the empty calorie foods that are most apt to add pounds, i.e. candy, sugar in tea and coffee, rich desserts and pastries, potato chips and salted nuts and pretzels, etc... In place of these items natural (and delicious) substitutes can be celery and carrot sticks and other raw vegetables and fruits. Oranges and unshelled peanuts as well as other nuts are items that re- quire handling i.e. peeling or shelling, and are good nutrients. It is true that nuts have a fairly high caloric value, but unlike shelled, roasted, oil soaked and salted nuts, those requiring wrestling out of the shell slow down the munch- ing process and satisfy the exsmokers need to keep their hands busy.
