Pe : assiar Courier the Voice of Cassiar Country VOLINO 10. AUG.- SEPT. 10cents ACCIDEN T RATE INCREASES ROYAL CANADIAN MOUNTED POLICE Cassian Courter Aug.-Sept. Cassiar Detachment Statistics: The ones you read in the outside papers really don't mean much to us here do they. Well here's one for us and us only. To date this year there have been 46 property damage motor-vehicle accidents reported to this office along with 6 injury accidents. Totalsn52¢ For all of last year there were 41 property damage accidents and 7 injury for a total of 48. Simple math tells us we are ahead of last year already. WHY?? Better/worse roads, drinking and driving, lack of care. All of these play some part but look around you. We are not so small anymore. There are more drivers and vehicles on the road. Think about it the next time you roll a stop sign, park on the wrong side of the road, cut a corner on the Cassiar-Stewart High- way. The gun control provisions in the act will, however, not be proclaimed at that time. : Firearms control will be brought into effect January 1, 1978. Gun control. sections of the Criminal Code Amendment Act will require consultation with the provinces, establishment of some administr- ative systems, the training of staff, and other preparatory work before they can be confirmed as arms, and an outline of offenses and penalties will appear January 1, while the Firearms Aquisitioh Certificate (F.A.C.) system and -business permit provisions will go into effect on the June 1 deadline. For the consideration of some of you in northwestern B.C. I would like to underline that a provision in the F.A.C. section allows that persons who must use firearms to hunt or trap for family support will not be obliged to pay the $10 fee for the firearm acquisition certificate. Overall, I feel the Criminal Code Amendment Act will allow for a better measure of protection for Canadians. Caurooral: Bob Fitzsimmons of the Cassiar Detachment.
