Although | our teams lost most at the events, they showed excellent effort in every sport. Most of the Cassiar teams were Juniors, where as the Stewart teams were mainly seniors except for their Junior Floor Hockey team. Girls: Yvonne Inkster, Carol Fugere, Gwen Hudson, Christina Tates, Karen Taylor. Boys: Olavo Santos, Les Kurian, Gordie Kamlah, Anil Kaul, Atul Kaul, Stewart presented us with a strong showing at all levels. The Stewart girls team, which was strong here last Fall, easily defeated our girls in singles and doubles. Our boys defeated Stewart at all levels, although there were two very close matches, Gordie Kamlah won the boys singles title for Cassiar, while the team of Anil and Atul Kaul triumphed in bovs doubles. It should be pointed out that Cassiar sent only juniors to compete and that, despite age differences between them and-many of the Stewart players, aay SCQUEtERE themselves. _. The Easter holidays are combined with the regular Spring School Break this year beginning March 24 (Good Friday). School resumes on Monday, April 3. The Victoria Day holiday falls on May 22 this year. School closes on June 29th for the summer break and reopens on Sept. 5, the day after Labour Day. Thanksgiving Day is October 9 and Remembrance Day is November 11(Sat.). Christmas school vacation for 1978 begins with school closing Necember 15. School resumes in the new vear January By 1979. School officials strongly urpe parents to plan vacations during school holiday times. Lost school | time cannot be effectively recovered and creates hardships for many students. TR I oe PTY PTA Word ~A- Thon Last February the grade four class put out a challenge to the other classes to make all the words they could out of the words "Valen- tine's Day" and see if any class in the school could beat them. We started out the list by letting each student make their ow list. After we had crossed out, added and argued about thé words, Mrs. Smit, our teacher drilled us on the mean- ings of them. (We lost about ten words then.) After all that work we only came down to about one- hundred and seventy (170) words. The worst part of the work came when the other classes handed their lists in. We had to look up weird words and usually crossed them off, Then we had to look for some words they might not know. When we drilled them all, the classes lost quite a few words. Overall, the grade 6/7 _ class won with 299 words. After them came the grade 5, then the grade 6 and last but not least the grade 4. Even though the grade 4 had to do a lot of work, I think they thought it was fun. Brian Grant Grade 4_
