The tie Good Hope Lake candidates were Molly Dennis and Clary EB Poitras. The contestants were required to answer a quiz and lay out a Family Fire Escape Plan. Approximately forty children entered and this year’s winner was Susan Lanphear. Her prize was the title of “Fire Chief for a Day”. Susan was taken to lunch by the man she was replacing, Gord Becket, Cassiar’s Fire Chief, on November 27, 1986. This was followed by. a tour of the Fire. Hall and concluded with a ride around town in the fire truck. ' Susan recalled being at the Fire Hall and riding the fire truck when she was in Playgroup, be but said, “This was a lot more exciting!” . a. THINK BEFORE THIRD QUARTER YOU DRINK LOSS REPORTED The following Third Quarter Report was released November 10, 1986: The nine month operation of Cassiar Mining Corp- oration resulted in a loss of $2,514,000 compared to a profit of $677,000 for the corresponding period in 1985. Revenue for the third quarter was $11,686,000 resulting in a loss of $1,585,000. The comparative amounts for the third quarter of 1985 were $14,505,000 and a loss of $- 1,243,000. Positive cash flow from operations dur- ing the nine month period was $7,748,000 compared to $12,442,000 during the comparative period in 1985. An outstanding insurance claim, the subject of litigation, has been settled with the acceptance of a $2,000,000 settlement which will be recorded and received by Cassiar in the fourth quarter. The McDame exploration adit has been completed. Bulk sampling is currently in progress and 50 percent of the 1986 diamond drilling program has been comp- leted. The Christmas “Counter Attack Against Drinking Driving” will be in effect in the entire area north of the odease River Bridge, between December and January 26th. Your local R.C.M.P. will put into effect road checks to ensure safety. In 1977, the Province. launched an all-out campaign against the waste and tragedy caused by the drinking driver. Co-sponsored by the Ministry of the Attorney General and the Insurance Corporation of British Colum- bia, Counter Attack is a crime prevention program aimed at reducing the number and severity of alcohol-related traffic accidents on B.C.’s roads. Since 1977, alcohol-related traffic accidents have been estimated to be 10% lower each year.
