\ CURLING NEWS The pictures below show a few high school curlers in action. C ) The Curling Club is going strong. The first draw of the new year for the Firestone trophy is drawing to a close and it looks like some hot competition for the semi-finals with two rinks in each section showing a very good record of wins. The first social of 1968 was held on January 20th. About sixty curlers attended and enjoyed the variety curling which was featured. Imagine having to blow the rocks into the house! Membership is now at about one hundred and with the 14th Annual Bonspiel coming up on February 29th, March 1st and 2nd, it is expected this number will grow in the next few weeks. Our rinks have done well in outside competi- tion. Last weekend the three teams which went to the Teslin Bonspiel all were success- ful and came home with prizes. In this spiel. the Stan Thomas rink, composed of Stan, Bill Linklater, Bruce Kreller and Pat Tuckey, defeated the Bob Kennealy rink from White- horse to capture first prize in the first event. Other lucky(?) curlers were the rinks of John Forbes, Dave Rose, Len Tuckey and Isabel Tuckey, who were first in the third event, and Don MacQuarrie, Kinky Borsato, Grant Riddell and Arlene Borsato, who captured second place in the same event. Well done, curlers! It is expected the Teslin and Whitehorse rinks will be back for revenge on February 29th, March 1st and 2nd, when our bonspiel will be held. The next draw at the club commences on January 29th and is for the Bell Asbestos trophy. The temporary heating which has helped to make the rink so comfortable even during the recent cold snap will soon be replaced by a permanent installation. Parts for the system are arriving and work should commence in the near future. High school curling continues but a falling off has been noted in participants with several rinks being short of personnel. Come on, kids, let’s curl!
