I am satisfied that the superintendence of the colonial police and the conducting of the financial branch of the department®® will occupy my time to an extent that will render it impracticable for me to hold with advantage to the public service the supervision of another department. If His Excellency be pleased to allow me to assume this charge, I have to beg His Excellency’s orders to proceed without delay to the seat of Government? to prepare and submit for His Excellency’s consideration a plan for conducting the police duties of the Colony, and to enable me to confer with the Colonial Treasurer respecting the system of police accounts which should be established.
