The proposed budget, which will be pre- sented to the Board of Governors on April 6th, will increases. include recommendations for tuition fee | will be holding an open forum on the budget on March 19th from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm in the Canfor Theatre to address student concerns and receive input. The draft UNBC budget is being developed with- in the context of the Government of British Columbia three-year fiscal plan. The plan freezes funding for advanced education at the 2001-2002 level, deregulates tuition fees, targets specific academic areas for priority funding, and promotes research through the establishment of twenty provincial leadership professorial chairs. New Writers Festival Just West of Unruly hits Prince George March 13-23 Poetry, drama and fiction lovers of the North will flock to Prince George March 13-23 with the opening of a new writer’s festival called Just West of Unruly. Performances are free and will be hosted at a variety of venues throughout the city. What makes a writers festi- val featuring 20 poets and writ- ers from around Canada Just West of Unruly? Just ask event organizer Dr Rob Budde, an Assistant English Professor at the University of Northern British Columbia: “The writer's festival exists to provide the people of Prince George with a wide and unruly variety of literary perfor- mances. There’s no theme to the writing being presented- each poet or writer is unique in their own right,” said Budde. Just West of Unruly will fea- ture a number of local writ- ers—Barry McKinnon, Donna Kane, Jacqueline Baldwin, Lynda Williams, Bal Sethi and Michael Armstrong, to name a few. In addition to local talent, the writers festival will also import inspiration from other parts of Canada—Lorna Crozier, Jay Ruzeski, Margaret Sweatman, bill bis- sett, Eden Robinson, Uma Parameswaran, Aritha van Herk, and Dennis Cooley will all give readings from their lat- est books. “t see Just West of Unruly as the perfect tonic after a long winter.
