Paye 10 July 1981 Cassiar Courier , ON THE ROAD TO EXPERIENCE THE CLASS OF 8 ff It was a moving moment as the class of 81 entered the auditorium of the Cassiar Theatre to the strains of Paul Williams* “ Looking for Space” while over 100 proud parents, relatives and wellwishers looked on, This class of 18 students is the largest that has grac'uatec m from the Cassiar School so far = a fine indication of how the school has grown in the past five years. After brief speeches from Mrs. Sethan and Mr, Corcoran, Ed Spetch introduced the guest speaker, Mr Bruce Patterson, Mr, Patterson was last year's Grade 12 home room teacher and was pleased to be present. The graduates were one of the first classes he ever teught enc he was very proud of their achievements, He particularly remembers the grads for their sense of humor and he asked that they always try to maintain it no matter what lies ahead for them. On behalf of the graduating class, Cindy McCauley thanked Mr Patterso' for t:is a:!- . dress and presented a small gift as a token of their appreciation. Gordon Kamlah gave the valedictory address, which was followed !-y tlie presentation of the diplomas to each graduate. § ! Karen Taylor received the Steelworkers Scholarshipand the Cassiar Resources Academic Scholarship, both were for $500 She was also recognized for her achievement in being awarded th:e William and Ada Isabelle Steel Endowment Entrance Scholarship to Simon Fres- ser University. Cindy McCauley received the Cassiar Resources Leadership Bursary and Kathy Johnston received the Lions Club Bursary, A special scholarship was presented to Gale Fugere for her high academic achievement over the past two years, An added touch was the presentation of flowers by each graduate to their mothers. Before closing Mr. Chambers thanked tl:e numer ous people who made the graduation a reality for so many of the students. A delicious chinese buffet was served in the beautifully «'ecor- ated school gym, followed by a dance. Special credit must go to Mr, N. Vickery, Ms. C. Guldner, Mrs.S. Chambers, the Grade 11 stuclents and Jayne for the tremendous job they did with the decorations. CINDY McCAULEY Will take a course in Early Childhood Education at Kamloops. GARY DENNIS Hopes to become a mechanic BRIAN ARCHER Will work in Cassiar for one year then take engineering at University. KATHY JOHNSTON Will take nurses training in Van- couver, JOHN ‘FARMER. RATTRAY Will hunt with Overtons till October then may go on to College. KAREN TAYLOR Attending Simon Fraser for Computer Sciences and Math . GORDON KAMLAH Hopes to become an electrician, CALVIN MARION Will possibly work in the area, Inter. ested in HD Mechanics & welding. CHRISTINA TATES Joining the Royal Bank of Canada in Cassiar GAIL FUGERE Will attend University of Victoria taking History and Political Science.
