THIRTEENTH EDITION cates of proficiency in a brief but colourful ceremony in the school grounds. At the conclusion of the presentation, Mr. Maitland, who was accompanied by Commissioner T. W. S. Parsons, expressed his satisfaction at the work of Sub-Inspector C. K. Mackenzie, who is a charge of the school training programme. Curriculum of the course covers a wide variety of subjects, and the lecturers include senior officials from many Government de- partments, and specially qualified officials of the Provincial and R.C.M. Police. Besides a good deal of physical training and drill, the men receive a thorough grounding in administrative matters, first aid, court procedure, inquests. Experts of the force’s Criminal Investigation Branch provide complete instruction in all phases of investigational work, including portrait parle, moulage (the art of making casts and impressions), and subjects for scientific in- struction include glass fractures, composi- tion of metals, stains, forgeries, invisible writing fluids and counterfeiting. Very complete instruction is given in fingerprint- ing, photography, ballistics and firearms, and a good deal of time is taken up with scientific and laboratory practices.
