THE CENTENNIAL LIVES It took a little more than three extra months to wind up the affairs of the Cass- iar Centennial '71 Committee, but on April 6th, a very happy qroup was present when the motion to dissolve was accepted. The good feelings continue, however, as we use the Centennial Arena and Lounge. The hard work has given the Community something tangible and lasting from the Birthday Celebrations. This was the theme of the talk given by Mr. D. Shuffler, that Thursday evening - when the Centennial Lounge was officially opened, Noting how other small towns had seen great things come from their invest- “ment in adequate sporting facilities, Mr. Shuffler looked ahead to the days when | Cassiar would be the starting point for champion athletes in hockey, figure skat- ing and other pursuits. There would be no Arena or Lounge if it had not been: for the hard work of many people. The part- icipation was what had made it all poss- ible. Support came from donations of Jabour from individuals, the Community organizations, and the Cassiar Asbestos. Corporation. Besides the Government qrants,: matching funds were donated or raised through the 71 Winter Carnival and the Regatta Day. :
