Over The Edge Page 12 Oct 9, 2000 The Largest Vinylutions Gathering to Date Venus vs. Mars Alternative culture in Prince george is fast growing, and the rave scene is no excep- tion. Saturday, October 23 hosted the largest Vinylution Gatherings party yet to hit PG, and became a night that will stick in many peoples’ minds for some time to come. The party destination was the Rollerdome, with both rooms being used to their full capaicity (with no real ‘main’ or ‘back’ room, the line-up of Djs was phenomenal). The light show was the largest yet, as was the amount of stereo equipment, and over 600 people attended without a single violent incident. Unlike the name of the party suggested, there was no female versus male Dj on stage, but rather a casual mix of genders throughout the night. The male Dj line- up was made up of both Vinylution residents and other local Dj's that included Monte Martens (also of D’oh Boy), Heiper, Kureous, Blue Screen (formerly Cypher), Coal, Kyle, Weasel, and (unofficially named) Backspun. However, the real treat was the three female Dj’s (all ‘imported’ from the south) who rocked the crowd with their personal genre’s of electronica. The first on the decks was the Sorceress, straight out of Naniamo and playing her style of tech, pro- gressive and hard house, and therein opening the northern scene’s eyes of what the south has to offer. The next female to spin, from Vancouver, was Miss Innocent. Her style, more old-school, Roland 303-influ- enced acid-trance and house music that kept the crowd in a frenzy of flailin’ feet and glo-sticks, just kept gettin’ faster and faster and...(personally, ! don’t think | have heard so many scream’s for just one Dj’s set!) However, the treat of the night, the creme de la creme, the most amazing Dj set this town has ever heard (ok, maybe that’s just my personal view), was Ill-Esha, also from Vancouver, playing her style of jungle and drum n’ bass while vocaling over top. While the hardness of her beats would call some deep down animalistc desire to go crazy on the floor, her vocals both soothed and excited the hte listeners mind into a deeper aprecia- Gentlemen Grab Your 3 minutes a month could save your life. Testicular cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in men ages 20-35. Regular examination of the testicles can help detect cancer in the early stages when it is highly cur- able. Men should begin doing a testicular self-exam every ‘month at about 15 and con- tinue to do so for life. Doing a self-exam every month helps men become familiar with their body and helps them to detect any abnormalities. The best time to do a testicular exam is during or after a . warm shower or bath when the skin of the scrotum is relaxed. The following are some simple guidelines for performing a testicular exam. It will take about three min- utes to do and could save your life. How to do a testicular self- exam: 1) Stand or sit so you can see your testicles, either by looking down or looking intoa mirror. With your hands move the scrotum around so you can inspect all surfaces. Look for any swelling or lumps. It is normal for the left testicle to be lower than the right. 2) Examine each testi- cle separately by rolling the testicle between your thumb and the first two fingers of both hands. Normal testes feel oval, smooth and rub- bery. Check for lumps, swelling, pain, a change in size or consistency of the tes- ticle. 3) Feel the epididymis, a cord-like structure, on the top and back of each testicle. It is softer than the testicle, and should not hurt. Contact your health care provider if you find any thing abnormal, or if you are unsure of what you are feel- ing. If you detect an abnor- mality it may not mean you have cancer, it just means — that there is something that a | qualified health care provider | should take a look at. | Remember early detection is — key,-Sso guys please, don’t be shy, month.
