AMBIENT

No federal ambient. asbestos standard has been
set as of this date. “The Province of Ontario
introduced a 0.04 fibre per cubic centimeter
ambient air asbestos standard in the early
1970's. Currently, there are no asbestos
mining or milling operation in Ontario. In
the Province of Quebec, where over 80% of Canada's
asbestos production occurs, there is not any
ambient asbestos standard at present. The
Quebec Asbestos Mining Association, however,
have 1977 data from 5 towns adjacent to the

Eastern Townships Asbestos Mines, indicating

an arithmetic average of 0.045 fibres/cc.

Our Cassiar data for the period December 1976
to June 1977 indicates an arithmetic average
of 0.034 fibres/fec. (The Cassiar results are

outlined in Appendix D).
