There are tremendous inroads
being made yearly by suicide.
Here, also, the principal weapon
used is the revolver. Think of the
many precious lives that might be
saved if there were no revolvers
at hand!

When a criminal, gunman or rack-
eteer has been arrested, tried and
convicted, the approximate cost to the
taxpayers is $3,000. But that isn’t all.
I wish it were. For each year of his
long prison term, the taxpayer must
pay about $500 for the prisoner’s
maintenance, plus the pay of prison
personnel.

What would be the reaction of the
public if they, as individuals, were to
receive from the government a bill
for $500 every year, just before
Christmas, for the upkeep of some
pistol-whipp'ng punk in the Big
House ?

The cold fact is, it really does cost
taxpayers in Canada that astounding
sum—and all because of crime com-
mitted. in most cases, because of a re-
volver held menacingly in the hand of
a robber.

The criminal is ever ready to mur-
der for his own self-protection in the
event of a jam with the police. The
non-criminal, during a heated argu-
ment or fight, not infrequently com-
mits murder, because a revolver is
ready to his hand.

Aside from the legitimate use
police officers make of revolvers,
what good are they? They are
useless.

A bill prohibiting revolvers is
greatly needed to stem the tide of
atrocious and petty crimes being com-
mitted throughout Canada. It would
be logical, timely, and above all, the
only reasonably sure remedy for the
ereatest evil to which the Canadian
people have ever been subjected. * *
