Distant Dimensions III By: Dana Schwehr The third year of the Vinylution Gatherings series of Halloween parties was a huge success. This particular gathering featured two stages, an array of talented DJs, and a wide variety of music genres. Amazing cos- tumes, great music, and an excellent venue all added up to create the perfect Halloween experience. Featured on the main- stage were the talents of Lando (previously known as DJ Dart), Kyle, Monte Martens, Adin Bennett, and Weasel. Lando, China White/Slam Funk Allstars/Team Hardcore Du, started the night off right with his funky brand of disco house. It was a tough act for Kyle to follow, but he held up well with his hard-hitting hard Certified General Accountants Association of British Columbia house set. Monte threw down a wicked progressive house and trance set that made sure the crowd was up on its collective feet. After Monte was the highlight of the night, the headliner from Vancouver, Adin Bennett. Adin’s tech house set was all that one could hope for in a tech house set. Weasel, making his first appearance at a Prince George party www. THINKCGA.org since his return to Prince George, ended the night with his own brand of high energy drum n’ bass, which was the perfect thing to get all the tired out fans back on their feet. There was another stage tucked away on the upper floor of the Rollerdome that night. This smaller, but no less intense, stage featured the spinning talents of Sven, Timmy, Dust, Insomniac, Professor Pow, and Jekobe. Sven led of with some good drum ‘n bass, and was followed by the progressive trance sounds of Timmy. Dust showed us his ability to mix a wide range of sounds, and mixed up some funky tech, break beats, progres- sive trance, and disco house. Insomniac followed with a hard house and hard trance set that ensured the crowd’s dancing pleasure. Professor Pow showed us that girls can indeed com- pete with the big boys, and blew the crowd out of the water with her breaks and speed garage mixing skills. Finishing off was Jekobe, who played breaks as only Jekobe can. The energy was high the music was excellent, and the second stage was definitely worth checking out. Of course, no Halloween party is com- plete without costumes, and this one was no exception to the rule. Some of the cos- tumes there were absolutely amazing. Scattered amongst the usual assortment of dev- ils, angels, cats, and fairies, were some truly amazing costumes. Included among these were Rainbow Brite, Sonic the Hedgehog, a lamp, a tree, a giraffe, and an Ewok. These costumes could only enhance the atmosphere of the party, and help make it a more enjoy- able experience for every- one. In all, Vinylution’s brand of Halloween revelry created a thoroughly enjoyable expe- rience for everyone involved. One can only hope that the tradition will be continued next year with Distant Dimensions IV. Above: A stylin’ giraffe and hippie strut their stuff at Distant Dimensions III.
