October 12, 1998 NEWS Over The Edge Page 3 Residence II television vanishes By Dana Schwehr During the early morning hours of September 30th, 1998, the thirty-two inch tele- vision set from the Residence II common lounge vanished mys- teriously. The TV, prop- erty of the UNBC Housing Department had been sitting in the common lounge for approximately four years, in the same con- dition, and had never required anti-theft measures. None of the residents can believe that their television could have gone miss- ing without someone noticing, but somehow, it did. Due to the missing television, and the fact that all the pool cues for the Res II pool table need to be re-tipped, the Common Lounge has been shut down until further notice. This means that resi- dents cannot use the lounge for their floor events, such as potlucks or floor meet- ings. Also, the cost for a new TV will be taken out of the damage deposits of every resi- dent in Res II, whether or not they ever used the common lounge. The cost to the stu- dents should be three to five dollars, accord- ing to Residence life coordinator, Ali Geiger. In the future, the replacement TV will be bolted down, and deadbolts will be added to both doors, as the Residence | lounge is set up. Also, common lounge hours will be more strictly enforced, and no one will be allowed in after hours, which are 8:00am to 11:00pm. On Wednesday, the Residence Assistants in Residences | and II participated in a sched- uled check of all win- dow screens in the buildings; this was scheduled before the TV was stolen, and had nothing to do with the fact that the TV was stolen, according to Geiger. Of course, if the set were to re-appear mys- teriously, the residents would not be charged First Nations Art: A Different Kind of Sale By Nicole Larson Diversity is the back- bone of Canadian cul- ture.
