Once convince’ of the method adopted as correct, no amount of reasoning or persuasion ‘will change their mind. As earnest students of human na- ture they aren't easily deceived by outer appearances. Aquarians are radical in their opinions, always questioning and breaking away from accepted stand- ards, sceptical in all matters that can’t he logically. ex- plained or demonstrated, and reason from intellectual and material points of view. They always endeavor to explain the supernatural in a commonplace, matter-of- fact way. They are a gentle and even-tempered people, hav- ing great regard for the good opinion of others. They are fond of dress and bright, sometimes flashy colors, desiring to. follow the latest fashions and to associate with those of a high social level. Their memory is excel- lent, are fine entertainers and are able to adapt to vari- ous circumstances or environment. They tend to worry over the simplest matters, but are able to meet ‘if ficul- ‘ties with fortitude. One apparent drawback of Aquarians is that they are apt to be restless, scattering their forces hy trying to do too much with too many things all at one time. They seldom antagonize personal feeling, hut agree with others for the sake of good fellowship, although they are stubborn regarding important matters. They spend money freely for their personal gratification, but generally look for a fair equivalent. They make faithful friends and bitter enemies and will meet treachery with treachery. They have an extremely nervous temperament causing most of their disorder to arise from the nervous system. They favor literary and scientific pursuits, they are natural traders and buyers, but lack ‘eter min- ation and shrew:Iness for great financial schemes. VOCATION: WOMEN: Aquarian women are very faithful and devoted in the home and domestic affairs, an‘ also to their friends, but if abused they tend to become treacherous and cruel. They are extremely fond of social entertainment and desire to ‘ress in the most approved fashion. They are kin to all, but prefer to make friends of those. who have high rank and social prominence. : : They. are bright ‘and witty in conversation an‘ usually win respect and admiration from others for their common sense views ani quick understanding. They seem impelled by nature to teach either publicly ig ‘or privately and make excellent public speakers, writers musicians, actresses and social leaders. They have con- slargazing a siderable inventive ability and are good buyers, sales- women and accountants. MEN: The mental quickness of Aquarian men make them very apt in the trades and professions and are very fond of literary scientific pursuits, as writers or lawyers. They prepare their essays and briefs with much precision, as they also have a fine choice of lang- uage. Once an idea has taken firm root, especially re- garding science and inventions, they work with persist- ency and concentration of purpose. They are natural traders and buyers, inquiring as to price and value of things and are fortunate in len4- ing ani borrowing and in real estate speculations. They are inclined to worry over small matters and un- less associated with those of adventuresome spirit, will stick to minor trates and pursuits. As statesmen and politicians they keep close to publie opinion and regard public office as a public trust. They rarely oppress others through the use of the pow- er of their position. Their minds are extremely active in regards to humanitarian work and they like to think and act on behalf of others. As Aquarians represent intellectual an scientific spirit of the age, they tend to deal with psychological subjects by reducing the phenomena to practical dem- onstration. As clerks, they perform their duties with painstaking precision and are quiet in their manner. COMPATABILITY: AQUARIUS WITH ARIES: Adquarius will not dampen the initiative and independence of Aries and Aries will appreciate the friendship of Aquarius. Aries loves anything new, so is. interested in the off-beat ways and attitude of Aquarius, but if Aquarius becomes unpredictable at an inopportune moment, Aries will have the tendency to be- come irritated and impatient. AQUARIUS WITH TAURUS: There is little in common between these two. signs other than both are extremely deter- mined. Taurus won't. understand Aquarius’ unpredictibility and when Aquarius wants to be free and aloof he or she re- gards Taurus as too possessive. Aquarius has a natural desire to shake affection with many people in a humanitarian way while Taurus is much more exclusive about their feelings. AQUARIUS WITH GEMINI: compatible but have very different natures and viewpoints. Gemini is able to accept a detached and or unpredictable mood from Aquarius and is stimulated by Adquarian’s Originality and inventiveness. Unconventional and change- The two of you are fairly able qualities of this relationship aid in keeping it alive. AQUARIUS WITH CANCER: Long periods together reveal that these two signs have very little in common. The sensitivity and clinging tendency of Cancer can disturb Aquarius who needs time for independence and detached action as Aquarius is a universal rather than a personal lover who likes to share interests and affections with friends and humanity. AQUARIUS WITH LEO: « There can be a strong initial reaction which may transform into equally strong opposition. Both signs have strong fixed opinions, determinations and minds of their own, so without compromise, there will-be clashes of wills. Leo feels justified in claiming his or her partner’s attention while Aquarius likes to share interests, - affections, ideals and activities with more than one person. _.and affections with friends, Leo won't understand why Aquarius is so unpredictable, detached and uncatchable. AQUARIUS WITH VIRGO: “There is a mental and intellectual affinity in. this combination rather than a deep emotional -bond. Virgo is sensible, rational and analytical and somewhat cool while Aquarius can be: dispassionate, detached and uninvolved. Virgo’s mind cannot. saith the enigma that is Aquarius. AQUARIUS WITH °LIBRA: Since both ees are naturally friendly and need the company of others they are able to share these pleasures together. Libra is the epitome of the personal lover while Aquarius is the universal lover needing to share interest and affections with many people. When Aquarius becomes aloof and unpredictible, Libra uses that and diplomacy, rather than anger to handle.the situation. Neither of you will make impossible demands upon the other and there can.be a good bond if Libra allows Aquarius the freedom needed. Ley AQUARIUS WITH SCORPIO: These two signs are strong willed and determined and if both combine forces into a common goal, great achievements are possible. Scorpio is intensely emotional and possessive but Aquarius . likes to. feel free to share interests, activities groups . and social . causes. If Scorpio tries to dominate it. will cause rebellion.from Aquarius. Unless these important differences in emotional ’ attitude are clearly understood, Scorpio will feel that Aquarius is too impersonal and detached. AQUARIUS WITH SAGITTARIUS: There is a strong affinity between these two signs. Both have .an independ- ent streak and need freedom and also have high ideals that transcend the personal: levels. Both signs. are naturally friendly and will attract many people into their spheres, sharing the resulting pleasures and reciprocal benefits. AQUARIUS, WITH CAPRICORN: There is very little in common -between these two. signs and this relationship will be subject to changes of mood, routine and attitudes? Many personal readjustments will have to be made by both parties although this may be very difficult due to Aquarius’ independence and stubbornness about personal concerns while ~ Capricorn’ tends to be tenacious, holding tight to goals and convictions. Aquarius sometimes likes the thrill of a new and exciting experiment, regardless of conse-- quences while Capricorn regards this as totally unnec- essary. ¢ AQUARIUS WITH AQUARIUS: _ There will be un- usual, surprising, * changeable or distuptive conditions affecting this felationship and many outsiders. will not be able to fathom the complexity of this union for only an Aquarian an understand another Aquarian. Much will depend on which of the many. facets of this sign each in- dividual possesses. AQUARIUS WITH PISCES: It will be difficult to ~ find a more unusual combination than this pairing. Both are different than other people. There will be two sides to this -relationship. Firstly, the superficial layers appear ordinary and normal and secondly, the unseen hidden ‘interplay of psychological forces make it a highly com plex union. Each person senses the unfathomable. depths in the’ other which are seldom entered into even in a life long relationship. : \ Qu RORA arts c entre by Walter Comper The Centre will be presenting.a range of art & craft courses _in the New Year Please keep a watch for posters on times and’ dates of the various courses. Usually, this is spoken in reference to air pollution or environmental problems like the littering of streets and parks, or the dumping of waste Products into rivers and streams. I’m sure we all feel some sense of _ responsibility in preventing the pollution of our environment. . ‘But, what about the’ polluting oF minds and bodies with un- necessary drug materials? Chemicals that are known to cause suffering, illness and yes, even death are sold as readily as tooth paste or chewing gum in our general stores. - I'm not referring to preparations that are useful in some small way..1 am referring to a product sold in bright, gleaming Packages, a product that is responsible for a least 30,000 deaths every year in Canada, This product has not been proven to oviee one single health benefit for anyone. ; The product | am referring to is cigarettes. One pharmacist who boasted a large display of cigarettes in his drugstore, told me that 16% of his profits come from the sale of cigarettes. It was a clean product, easy to store,.no breakage, no refunds. Is it possible that it has never entered his mind that he was contribut- ing to the ill health of his customers. Another store owner said cigarettes are responsible for at least $10,000 worth of sales every month. Tobacco is big business. In some cities, drugstores have advertised cigarettes in back to school flyers. Another friendly neighborhood store had a special draw. Everyone who purchased a carton of a certain “new light” ciga- rette could fill in an entry form for a draw to win a Sports Bag (decorated with the colors and emblems of that particular brand). Until recently, cigarettes were available but not promoted other than through the printed media, Vhhat’s the panic? Are sales dropping? Is it now necessary to give “special deals” on ciga- rettes? Maybe the fact that last year Canadians smoked one billion fewer cigarettes is causing concern to the cigarette industry. ross ‘Country Ski Trail @ No Ski-doos Last year, in Canada, one half of all heart attack deaths, 86% of all cases of lung cancer, 90% of all emphysema victims were laid to rest because cigarettes have become woven into our Social fabric in a not so subtle way. The ads promise “‘satis- faction”, a “taste to call your own” or “a taste of independence”. The suggestion that cigarettes not only enhance one’s lifestyle but actually make life more fun is hard to believe if you are one of the million Canadians suffering from cigarette induced or aggra- vated ills. All too frequently, bronchitis, asthma, Burgers disease, or other cardio-respiratory problems are proven to be caused by cigarette smoking. Think also, about the thousands of smokers trying to quit; many of them won’t make it. Nicotine addiction is as strong as heroine addiction, for some. Every day 1,000 Canadian children start smoking. Are they looking for the promises of “wild and mild”, | “like your style” or being “No, 1°? There is a 70% chance that if they smoke more than one cigarette they will become regular smokers. Twenty years ago, cigarettes were introduced to teens at an average age of 16 years. Today, young people are not waiting for their teen years before they start to smoke. Many start smoking at 8 or 9 years of age, while the national average age of “getting into smoking” is 11 years. Medically speaking, a human’s lungs have not reached full development until 20 to 21 years of age - are we setting the stage for a generation of respiratory cripples? Nearly 30% of children 171 - 16 years of age are smoking cigarettes every day. “ho is selling them cigarettes? Canadian law tells us it is illegal to sell cigarettes to anyone under 16 years of age. It is illegal for a child under 16 to purchase cigarettes without a signed note from their parents. It is also illegal for anyone under 16 years of age to be in possession of cigarettes or tobacco products. When was the last time you sent your child to the store to buy cigarettes? When was the last time a child watched you with Curiosity as you lit a cigarette? (Or took a puff from your ciga- rette while you were out of the room?). Are you part of the problem or part of the solution? ae @ Please do not walk on Shi irecks \ Crofts Center Malezemoff boo Cen 2 © Oo ° win) = x is) Anprox. -Cassiar Courier February 1982 Page 15 Figure Skating A meeting of the Blue Valley Figure Skating Club was held on January 13, with approximately 25 parents attending. Following the treasurer’s report, the Figure Skating Pro, Lorraine Menzul, reported on how the lessons were going. Our- ing the discussion, Lorraine explained how she divided the groups for instruction and how much time each group receives: She also’ mentioned that if any parents have complaints then they should approach her first as sometimes there is a delay before she hears the complaint and it is then too late to do anything about it: The Carnival was then discussed. This year the Carnival will again be held on the opening day of Schmoo Daze — Saturday, March 27th. Sue Pewsey wes elected Carnival Convenor and vol- unteers agreed_to look after the props and costumes. Once the children start practicing their Carnival routines, there may be a change in the times that they skate. They will be notified about the changes, Once they start practicing it is imperative that every session be attended, If a student misses three practices then he or she will not be able to take part-in the carnival. Also, all students should remember to look at the notice board as Lorraine uses this board to notify them of any important matters. Lorraine has no- ticed that many children go off the ice and sit in the dressing room, They are not forced to go on the ice as the time spent policing them would detract from the instruction time of the other skaters. Parents should speak to their own children about this problem. Various fund-raising ventures were discussed. The Figure . Skating Club. will continue to hold bingos until June. They will also have a Spaghetti Dinner on Sunday, March 28, as part of Schmoo Daze festivities. Other possible ventures are the Mother’s Day Flower Sale, a bedding plant sale and a St. Patrick’s Day Bake Sale. Two members of the senior skating group were at the meet- ing and they offered to organize a bake sale at the school. Watch out for more details in future issues of the Courier. Following the fund-raising discussions, the badge chairman, Sue Pewsey, reported that the badges had all been ordered and .Should be arriving shortly. The Figure Skating Club would like to thank eae for supporting the Christmas Bake Sale. Your support — especially at this busy time of the year, was greatly appreciated. Cross Country Skiing The Cross Country Ski Club would like to remind all residents of Cassiar that the cabin along the 5 km trail is complete and ready for use as a shelter During the course of the nex t few months we look forward to seeing new faces along the trail. The construction of a “Chicken Trail” will be completed for skiers who cannot negotiate the hills on the present trail. Once again we appeal to all Snowmobilers to please keep off the Cross Country Ski trails § Happy Skiing Northern Christmas Lights The Town Council's idea of presenting a prize for the best house decorations this Christmas, was not as simple as it seemed! The judges found there were so many impressive displays of decorations and lights that they had to tour the town many times before being able | to come to a decision. Finally, after much deliberation, they decided on the Osoria residence at 246 Drybrough because of the originality shown in their set up. This year must be the best ever for decorations and recognition should be given not only to the residents ~ but also to the other areas of the town, such as the bank, the cafeteria, the community club, the store, etc, etc, whose contributions helped make Gassiar a great place to be this Christmas! - By the way, who put the Christmas tree on top. of the Mill? *
