BERGER REPORT DISCUSSIONS CLOSE TO HOME Justice -Thomas Berger has tabled the first part of his federal government commissi- oned study on the effects of the Mackenzie Valley Pipeline and a very important dialogue has begun. The need for energy is reaching serious proportions in both the United States and Canada and since some of. the continent's largest resource deposits are located in our Canadian north and Alaska, a concentrated ef- fort will be made in the next few years to bring 011 and gas to the south. We must look care- fully at how this 011 and gas will be transported, for it must travel across large tracts of either land or water. Canada's . "Northern Policy" and the future of the entire northern section of our continent will be an item of serious discussion as a result of our energy needs. Many people are not aware that he is also a well- qualified steam engineer. George was brought up in Fort Frances in northern Ontario and met his wife Audrey in her home town of Fort William(now Thunder Bay) in 1940. He was 19 when he joined the Navy in Feb- ruary of 1942.
