Speaking with international exchange students and those students from other universities across Canada, UNBC seems to be very high on the expectation that students should read, and read a lot. While lecture notes are obviously key in direct application or sup- plemental material to “fill the gaps” between these assigned readings, some students have to approached me in asking how exactly one is able to manage both when so much is asked of you outside the classroom. The solution? Extra notes. This can help connect what you read to key assignments in class, and there’s nothing better than a professor asking a question you already know the answer to — especially if nobody else raises their hand. Although this is a seemingly simple solution for creating academic success, many students overlook i this as a way to study and absorb class ma- terials, and instead rely on sheer volume of information stored to make generalizations and unimaginative decisions on the ma- terial at large.
