Here in British Columbia no throbbing jungle drums have so far speeded a Mother’s Day message, as the wire services of our two great railway systems handle the job efficiently. Up near the little town of Barkerville two men own their own wire service. They are the brothers, Albert and Carl Bindschadler. Two bachelors, they live in separate cabins, 50 feet apart. Albert, the smaller of the Albert and Carl Bindschadler and their “Get ‘Em Up in the Morning” device. pair, has a habit of sleeping late. Just one of those fellows that can’t open his eyes in the morning. Whereas Carl is an early bird, the kind of fellow who is splitting kindling at daybreak. Both are miners working for the Cariboo Gold Quartz. Carl got fed up with trudging over to his brother’s cabin to waken him in the morning and just natur- ally figured out the Bindschadler alarm sys- tem for rousing late sleepers. From his cabin window stretches a 50-foot wire attached to a home-made device on the wall of his brother Albert’s cabin. A series of tugs gives a succession of rousing thumps on the log wall. It works 100 per cent. COMMISSIONER T. W. S. PARSONS NAMED TO INTERNATIONAL POST T. W. S. PARSONS, commissioner of British Columbia Police, was elected second vice-president of Region Four of the Ameri- can Association of Motor Vehicle Adminis- trators at its tenth annual meeting in San Francisco, which concluded Friday, June 4th. More than 250 delegates from 11 western states, Mexico and British Columbia at- tended the two-day conference. AN Italian soldier retiring before the Greeks according to plan, overtook a hare. Kicking it aside, he said, ““Get out of the way, slow- coach, and let somebody run who can run.” —Peterborough in the Daily Telegraph and Morning Post.
