Eleven Cassiar residents were charged with possession and trafficking of ‘nar- Cotics as a result of the work of an undercover team in Cassiar recently. Charges of possession of narcotics were laid against: DONALD NEIL CHRISTIE AND SHERRY LYNN JONES - charged jointly on two counts. RICHARD WILLIAM ZEMENCHIK AND CINDY KELUNICK - charged jointly on two counts. JOSEPH BUCYK - charged one count KIM JAMES BEAUDOIN - charged on three counts. DUANE BATTAJA - charged on one count At Court held in Cassiar on September 5 all of the above who were charged. with possession of a narcotic pleaded "Not Guilty" and their cases were sent down for trial on November 4, 1980: ~ Charges of trafficking were laid against: RICHARD ZEMENCHIK AND CINDY KELUNICK —- charged jointly with trafficking in cannabis marijuana KIM JAMES BEAUDOIN -charged with traf- ficking in cannabis marijuana GREGORY B. HANSON - charged with traf- ficking in cannabis resin At their court appearance on September 5 all those charged with trafficking pleaded "Not Guilty" and elected trial by judge and jury. Their preliminary hearings will be held in Cassiar on November 4. All persons charged with narcotic offences .were represented by Vancouver lawyer, Mr. Miller. Other cases heard in Court on Sept. 5: JAMES LAPOINTE - charged with impaired driving. He pleaded guilty and was fined $350.00 or 30 days in jail. PERCY SWIM - charged with impaired driving in Chetwynd. He was fined $800 or 30 days in jail. . FLORENE DENNIS - charged with Breach of Probation. Her sentence was to enter such alcoholic treatment program as deemed appropriate by the supervising probation officer. There were two juvenile court cases - one juvenile charged with breaking and entering a Cassiar residence pleaded guilty and his sentence was to apologize to the victim and also to do 40 hours. of work for the victim or 40 hours of community work. He must also abide by curfew laws. until November 4 - 8:00 p.m. on weekdays and 11:00 p.m. on weekends. The other juvenile was charged with stealing a car. He pleaded guilty and his sentence was to apologize to the victim and because he was not living in Cassiar he had to wash the R.C.M.P. patrol car before he left. Court was presided over by Judge Camp- bell of Vancouver. NEW DISTRICT SUPT. OF SCHOOL As of Septerber 1,.1980, the Stikine School District will have its ow District Superintendent of Schools. In the past thé Superintendent has been shared between Fort Nelson and the Stikine. Mr. Gordon Armstrong will be residing in Cassiar as soon as housing is ar ranged. He will make his office ina | new District Building, which soon will be erected in Cassiar. He has been Dis- trict Superintendent of a number of districts, including Vancouver Island West, Southern Okanagan and Burns Lake Mc. Armstrong will be joining balcolm McMurray, Director of Instruction, as part of the district staff. This is abig step toward the Stikine School District having a separate educ ational entity, with Cassiar at its Cencere:s BRINCO VISIT On Friday, August 22, Mr. Thomas Dirks, executive vice- president of Brinco Oil and Gas (part of the Brinco group that has signed an agreement to purchase majority holding of Cassiar Resources) visited Cassiar for the day. Mr. Dirks was taken on a tour of the Mine and Mill complex. He is familiar with this area, having been Big Game Hunting north of Watson Lake for several years. New Homes For Cassiar igs Five single family residential units are being relocated from Clinton Creek . to Cassiar to be made available for Cassiar employees. The houses, four bed- room units measuring 28 feet by 50 feet, were selected to meet the needs of some employees with larger families. The site has. been prepared on Maloz— emoff Avenue just west of the town- houses. The services have been install- ed and concrete footings for the found- ations have been poured. The buildings are being delivered in two sections. The first three sections have been delivered and further deliveries are expected in the near future. It is expected that the relocation of these houses will be completed sometime in November.
