Dougal called a number of times at
Elgin Crescent, and although the
mere presence of the swaggering
Dougal put little Miss Holland in a
positive twitter of excitement, the
landlady had her own private opinion
of his worth. One or two of the male

pointed. However she covered up her
disappointment and commiserated
with her dear captain on his unhappy
matrimonial venture.

However, Dougal, the man who
always got what he wanted, didn’t let
the matter rest there. For Miss Hol-
land then did something that would
have shocked Elgin Crescent to the
core, had they known of it. Casting
aside convention she spent a week-
end with Dougal at the Royal Hotel,
Southend. And as Mr. and Mrs.
Dougal.
